In a move that has forever muddled the SEO for calls to weaken the famous Destiny weapon, Bungie is releasing an actual NERF Gjallarhorn. It isn’t the first time the company has partnered to create merchandise for their looter shooter, but it’s certainly the most splashy thus far, and it perhaps opens the door to further, weirder collaborations in the future. With that in mind, here are five Destiny collabs I’d like to see, leaning more on the fashion than the toy rocket launcher side of things.
1. Brain Dead
Having worked with Vans, Marvel, and more, Brain Dead’s highly graphic approach would be a great fit for a Destiny clothing collab. Yeah, Bungie puts out some ok gear in-house, but check out Brain Dead’s Magic: The Gathering collection and tell me you wouldn’t want to see their take on Destiny.
2. Maison Margiela
It doesn’t have to be Margiela — it could be any perfumer. But regardless of who does it, I think making fragrances inspired by Destiny is a pretty cool idea. And hey, if they need any help figuring the notes out, I’ve already laid the groundwork.
3. Nike
I have a philosophical objection to lining up to buy anything, but if they put out Destiny Dunks I would probably have to install the SNKRS app. I know Bungie’s done footwear collabs before, but I’m not talking moon boots here — I’m talking some SIVA-ass Dunks. I mean, dunking is already a big part of Destiny 2. The copy practically writes itself!
4. Colourpop
A good-quality, affordably-priced makeup brand, Colourpop is no stranger to collaborations with video games. Their Animal Crossing set was adorable and drew on imagery from the games, complementing an already-solid product. Maybe Destiny doesn’t seem like quite as much of a natural fit here, but there’s plenty of opportunities for creative shade-naming, not to mention packaging — a compact shaped like a Ghost, maybe, or a Hive-themed palette for aspiring Witch Queens.
5. Rick Owens
Make my boy’s fit real, Rick. Please.
