Destiny 2’s Guardian Games 2021 is here, so it’s time to prove which class has a higher tolerance for grinding. With Titans prevailing last year, Hunters and Warlocks are looking to knock these punch-happy Guardians off the podium. Similar to the previous event, players will need to collect medals to earn points towards their class’s podium standing every day. The more points you acquire, the better your class will rank at the end of the day. However, Bungie listened to feedback and this system has been completely overhauled to alleviate the grind.

How to Get Medals

There are four types of medals, each of which has a corresponding point value. The way you earn these is slightly different, as two of them are tied to the new Contender Cards. With four varieties of medals, here’s a quick look at how many points each medal is worth:

Bronze – 1
Silver – 2
Gold – 5
Platinum – 15

You will earn the bulk of your Bronze and Silver medals by completing activities such as strikes, Crucible, and Gambit. These are very common and you’ll come across them often as you play Additionally, some Bronze and Silver Medals are tied to triumphs that are exclusive to the Guardian Games event. Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about grinding these out. What players will want to focus on are the two higher tiers of medals.

As for Gold and Platinum, you can earn these by completing the corresponding Contender Cards or specific triumphs. For Gold Medals, you will need to complete Strike, Crucible, or Gambit cards, while Platinum is tied to Survival, Trials of Osiris, and Nightfall cards. You can only hold one Contender Card at a time and this item is obtained by spending Laurels. Each card has a list of objectives you’ll need to complete first, but I highly recommend completing at least one Platinum Card before the weekend arrives. This is because you’ll earn All-Star status, which will net you an additional reward during the next podium ceremony.

Keep in mind, Bungie is scoring the classes differently this year. Instead of hindering Hunters progression due to their sheer numbers, Bungie will be introducing a flat 10% bonus scoring every day to the class that ranked the lowest. This will help balance out the number disparity between Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks over the course of the event. So, hopefully, Titans don’t outright embarrass every other class and claim victory again. ~~Seriously Warlocks, can we please try this year? I’m begging y’all.~~ Guardian Games is set to end on May 11, so make sure to set some time aside to grind out these Medals!
