This guide will take you through the steps to fix error code Cat in Destiny 2.

No game is immune to errors, and online games are especially vulnerable. Thankfully, Destiny 2 provides a list of codes that can more closely diagnose your issues if you can find out what they are. One of them is the error code “CAT.” If you’re getting error code Cat, don’t worry, it’s a simple fix.

How to Fix Error Code Cat

According to the Bungie Help page, error code Cat means that there is an update available for Destiny 2 that you still need to install. This mismatch between your client and server versions means you can only log in to Destiny 2 once you’ve updated the game.

To get the latest update on most systems, close out of Destiny 2 and check your downloads. Consoles and PC applications usually check for software updates once the software stops running. If this doesn’t work, you may need to try a complete system restart. Power cycling your console or PC and rebooting may cause the device to check for software updates and begin downloading the Destiny 2 update.

If this doesn’t work, there are other steps you can take — depending on your hardware. For PC users on Steam, find Destiny 2 in your Library and right-click on it. Select Properties, then Installed Files, and click “verify integrity of game files.” Doing this will compare your files to those on the download server to ensure everything matches. If anything doesn’t, it will automatically download after verification is complete.

For PlayStation 5 users, navigate to Destiny 2 in your games tab and press Options on your controller. Then, you can select Check for Updates, forcing the console to find the latest game update and download it. Xbox Series X|S users should head to My Games and Apps. From here, select Manage and then Updates. Find Destiny 2 and select Update. Doing this should start the download of the latest files.
