Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is officially live, so grab your weapon of choice and get ready to face the Cabal horde. Revolving around stopping Emperor Calus’ daughter Caiatl from uniting the Cabal, players will need to take down various champions that are vying for a seat on her War Counsel. But who cares about all that, we’re here for the loot. This season introduces several new playlist weapons for players to grind for in Gambit, Strikes, and the Crucible. The latter has a new sniper rifle called Frozen Orbit, which can roll with a number of solid perks. If you’re not a fan of Beloved or don’t own an Eye of Sol, here’s a sniper that you should consider grinding for.
How to Get Frozen Orbit
Similar to other playlist weapons, Frozen Orbit only drops at the end of matches in the Crucible playlist or by opening rank-up packages from Lord Shaxx. This weapon isn’t guaranteed at the end of a game, so it’s more than possible to go an entire night without seeing one. While Bungie has already confirmed playlist weapon drop rates will be increased, right now it will take a bit of time to farm for one. To help increase your chances, you can outfit your Ghost with a Prosperity (Crucible) mod. Rocking this will give you a chance at an additional legendary item whenever you win a Crucible match. You should always make sure this is equipped when you dive into some PVP!
Frozen Orbit God Rolls
Frozen Orbit PVE God Roll
- Arrowhead Brake
- Appended Mag
- Triple Tap or Clown Cartridge
- Vorpal Weapon or High Impact Reserves
The Frozen Orbit is a decent PVE option if you’re looking for a legendary sniper, simply due to the amount of perks it can roll with. But what you want to use the sniper for will entirely determine what your two primary perks are. In our first slot we’re running Arrowhead Brake for the big boost to handling and increase to our range stat. Appended Mag is the magazine to give us more bullets in the chamber. This also synergizes with Triple Tap and Clown Cartridge, both of which are perks we’re looking for on Frozen Orbit. Personally, I don’t recommend Extended Mag if you want a weapon for boss DPS (damage per second). The drastically slower reload speed isn’t worth a couple of extra bullets.
Speaking of, both Triple Tap and Clown Cartridge are terrific on this gun. Personally, I prefer Triple Tap since it’s more consistent if you can land critical hits. This makes it great for Champions or bosses, allowing you to quickly pelt them with round after round. As for the second slot, both Vorpal Weapon and High Impact Reserves are terrific for increasing Frozen Orbit’s overall damage. However, if you’re looking for a roll strictly to kill Champions then Genesis should be in your first slot. But since Anti-Barrier Sniper is probably going away next season, I’d make sure to farm for one that can be used throughout the year.
Frozen Orbit PVP God Roll
- Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Accurized Rounds
- Moving Target
- Snapshot Sights or Quickdraw
The PVP roll is far more straightforward, since there are only a few perks we’re hunting for. In the first two slots I recommend both Hammer-Forged Rifling and Accurized Rounds. These will increase Frozen Orbit’s efective range, allowing you to out snipe enemies from across the map. Given how Trials of Osiris is nothing but everyone trying to egt the first sniper kill, ensuring you can always accurately deliver your shots is crucial. Out first primary perk is Moving Target since it boosts our target aquisition and mobility while moving. You could argue Killing Wind is the better choice, but this is mainly for 6v6 modes.
Finally, we want either Snapshot Sights or Quickdraw. Both are great, but Snapshot Sights gets the edge for me. Being able to scope in faster than your opponent can mean the difference between life and death. However, you’ll want to practice quick scoping enemies, as this makes Snapshot Sights far more deadly. If that isn’t your style, then Quickdraw is the perk for you. These are solid perks, so make sure to pick a roll that works with your prefered playstyle.
