Destiny 2 PSA: Savathun’s Spire Mirror Portals Have a Silly Purpose

Savathun wants to stop you from placing a rally banner.

Savathun's Spire is Destiny 2's three-player seasonal activity introduced in Season of the Witch; it's layered with encounters and jumping puzzles that take players up the oubliette. After the second encounter, the Labyrinth puzzle area has mirror portals labeled with Hive runic symbols. The start of the Labyrinth puzzle shows a Hive symbol pattern, and intuitively, players have gone through the matching mirror portals to get to the boss fight. However, jumping through incorrect portals leads players to the same place.

It's a mysterious puzzle without obvious triggers or in-game text to tell you what happened, but the solution hides in plain sight. Finally, Destiny 2 players found that going through the matching mirror portals spawns a rally banner circle before the boss fight.

YouTuber Esoterickk proves this in a video where going through incorrect mirror portals doesn't spawn a rally banner circle. Players in the DestinyTheGame subreddit say that only one person in the fireteam needs to go through the correct portals to place a rally banner. If the entire fireteam goes through incorrect portals, they won't find the rally banner circle on the ground. This trick is easy to miss since rally banners are a given in seasonal PVE activities.

Earlier in Season of the Witch, this mystery led some to believe that jumping through the correct mirror portals spawns a secret Shrieker boss called the Reclaimant of Savathun — which shows up at the final encounter and can drop Deepsight versions of seasonal weapons when defeated. Since then, Destiny 2 players have determined that the secret Shrieker boss randomly appears in the final encounter.

Still, there are other secrets in Savathun's Spire that you can activate for more loot. Secret chests in Savathun's Spire spawn from the elemental plate and Deepsight puzzles, with the puzzle mechanics rotating each week of the season. This activity also has a secret Minor Arcana Opaque CardThe Imbaru Engine Opaque Card, and elemental attunement Opaque Cards that players can pick up.
