PSA: Xur Has a Must-Buy Weapon — But There's a Catch

The legacy of Emperor Calus lives on in this powerful SMG.

Xur brings a random assortment of Exotic and Legendary gear every weekend to a rotating destination within the Destiny 2 Solar System. The results are often mixed, at best. But starting on March 1 and ending with the March 5 weekly reset, the tentacle-faced peddler of strange curios has the coveted CALUS Mini-Tool, widely regarded as one of the best SMGs in the game.

The most popular weapon back in Season of the Haunted, CALUS Mini-Tool is currently part of the world loot pool along with many other weapons that randomly drop during almost any activity. Because that's a huge loot pool, the actual odds of getting one in the wild are almost impossible. Yet for 50 Legendary Shards and 1,000 Glimmer, you can buy one. You might even consider buying five of them!

Here's a look at Xur's roll for sale starting March 1, 2024:

  • Corkscrew Rifling / Polygonal Rifling
  • Extended Mag / Alloy Magazine
  • Moving Target
  • Tap the Trigger
  • Range Masterwork

The Masterwork and core perks of Moving Target and Tap the Trigger are ideal for a PVP roll, but the Magazine and Barrel are less than ideal. It needs more of a boost to range with those perks above all else. What's really beneficial with this weapon, however, is that you can spend a Deepsight Harmonizer on the CALUS Mini-Tool.

Introduced in Season 21, this Exotic-tier currency allows you to extract pattern progress on a weapon instantly. (You need five to unlock a weapon pattern fully.) Normally, you'd have to pray for a red-bar Deepsight Resonance version to drop so you can manually extract the pattern progress for free. But in this case, if you have enough Legendary Shards and Glimmer, you can purchase five copies of the CALUS Mini-Tool from Xur and then spend a Deepsight Harmonizer on each of them to make the CALUS Mini-Tool craftable. This will cost 250 Legendary Shards and 5,000 Glimmer, along with the five Deepsight Harmonizers, but it's worth it for a weapon this good.

Just make sure you do it before Xur leaves the Tower at the weekly reset on Tuesday, March 5 at 12 PM Eastern.

Despite its rarity, the CALUS Mini-Tool remains the 18th most popular weapon in PVE activities, and it's with good reason. It has an intense rate of fire, great handling, and 100 in recoil direction, which means its recoil is consistent and centered. Because it can roll with Incandescent (defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby), it's easily the single best solar SMG. Particularly because Solar Gunslinger Hunters are so powerful in Season of the Wish, having one of these in your arsenal is a great move.

The hard part here may be getting your hands on enough Deepsight Harmonizers. Currently, the only way to get them is via the Season Pass. Assuming you have the paid path unlocked, you can acquire one at Rank 47, 57, 62, 77, 84, and 93 for a total of six during Season of the Wish. As long as you buy five copies of the CALUS Mini-Tool from Xur and grind out the entire season pass, you’ve got yourself a crafted version of the weapon with one Deepsight Harmonizer to spare. Even if you don't get them all during Season of the Wish, it's worth it to keep five copies of CALUS Mini-Tool in your Vault so you can eventually craft your own.

Destiny 2 is a marathon, not a sprint.
