You Might Wanna Farm Vanguard Activities in Destiny 2 This Week

Get that Vanguard reputation up with double rewards this week

This week in Destiny 2, Guardians are getting double Vanguard reputation points. Stack that on top of the streak system that rewards you for doing the same activity multiple times in a row, and you’re looking at a great farm — when you’re on a full streak, you’ll get up to 870 XP for every Hero-level Nightfall you run. That’s a pretty good deal, especially because you’ll also be getting a whole bunch of materials and drops alongside it.

The Nightfall this week is Warden of Nothing, which takes place in the now-vaulted Tangled Shore area — well, in a prison inside of it, anyway. The corresponding Nightfall weapon is Duty Bound, which isn’t as exciting as the newly-returned DFA or Horror’s Least, but Warden of Nothing is at least a fairly painless Nightfall compared to something like The Corrupted. Most of the other weapons available from the Vanguard playlist pool aren’t anything special, though you can score the Empty Vessel grenade launcher and the Xenoclast shotgun. If you want a better chance of getting those kinds of drops, stick a Vanguard Prosperity mod on your Ghost.

There are other benefits to scoring a ton of Vanguard reputation, too. With the current ritual weapon system, you get the LMG Chain of Command on hitting rank 16 with any of Zavala, Shaxx, or Drifter. Then, after you’ve reset your rank once, the next time you hit rank 16 you’ll get that playlist’s ornament for the weapon. In addition to being a pretty neat Power weapon, Chain of Command and its ornaments are tied to seasonal challenges that will grant you experience and Bright Dust when they eventually unlock. Getting the Vanguard ornament for the weapon will also get you a new emblem.

If you’ve got a fireteam, you can run Legendary or Master Nightfalls instead of Hero to progress even faster, but there’s a caveat here — Combat Acceleration. This modifier is active in Hero and up, but it’ll be much more of a pain in higher difficulties. Essentially, it reduces the base cooldown of your abilities but recharges them when you score rapid hits on enemies. This means that if you’re running an ability-heavy build (looking at you, Molten Sunbracer Warlocks) then you’re going to have to adjust your playstyle.

Of course, grinding the same Nightfall over and over can get a little old, so don’t feel like you have to max out your Vanguard rank this week — there will be more double reputation weeks before the end of the season.
