If there's one thing FFXIV events and side content prepares its players for, it's FATE grinds. As a result, there are many tried and true methods for grinding FATEs, along with tips and tricks for ensuring you don't spend an eternity farming Yo-kai Medals during the event.

You must earn a Gold or Silver participation rank during FATEs to earn Yo-kai Medals. Numerous other players will also be clearing FATEs for the event, meaning you'll have very little time to contribute if you're not nearby a FATE when it starts. You can increase your contribution by understanding how FATEs work to counteract this. Combat FATEs count contributions based on the enmity you generate and targets you have hit or tagged. In FATEs with multiple enemies, you'll want to ensure you're using multi-target and AoE abilities, while damaging enemies appropriately with a proper rotation during single-target encounters.

When it comes to farming FATEs, Blue Mage stands out as the most effective job, especially if you have access to some of its more powerful multi-target spells. However, other classes like Red Mage and Black Mage make excellent choices for DPS, thanks their own AOE abilities. Healers and Tanks are perfect for ensuring a high contribution due to the enmity they can generate provided by tank stance and healing spells, with Paladin and White Mage being the top picks.

Enmity and damage dealt count toward contribution for only battle-oriented FATEs. For FATEs that require you to collect items, you'll need to gather at least 10 items to achieve a Gold participation rank. This knowledge can help you plan your actions and increase your chances of earning Yo-kai Medals.

FATE contribution is also shared among players in a party. As a result, you're more likely to get a Gold or Silver participation score if you're in a Light or Full Party. Players grinding FATEs will often invite other players into their group for a "FATE train," completing each FATE as they appear in a zone while ensuring everyone in the party gets the rewards. If you get sent an invite, make sure you accept it.

Ultimately, the quickest and best way to farm Yo-kai Medals is to join a party as a job with a good, high-damage AoE ability that you can spam regularly. Don't worry tremendously about rotations — the more critical task is tagging enemies.

Tips for Grinding FATEs During the Yo-kai Watch Collaboration Event

Here are some some general tips to assist you during the Yo-kai Watch event.

  • Find a location with many people, or play during populated times since FATEs can be challenging and slow if you grind solo. You're better off farming with as many people as possible. Adding other players in the mix can make tagging and contributing harder, but the additional damage makes the process quicker overall.
  • Stick with the train if you find one. FATE farming naturally forms a train of players moving from FATE to FATE across a zone. It's always best to follow this train rather than trying to set your own pace.
  • Make sure you have the correct Yo-kai minion out when farming for a specific weapon. Legendary Yo-kai Medals are a much more intensive grind, and the medals are non-transferable. As a result, you'll need to ensure you're farming the proper medals to avoid wasting time.
  • If you can't find a group to run FATEs with, form a new party. If you spot someone also farming FATEs, invite them to a party and try to team up for a higher participation score, making the process all the easier.
  • Take breaks. Players have nearly two whole months to complete the Yo-Kai Watch collaboration. While the initial minion grind will only take several hours, the weapons can take days or even weeks to obtain. Rushing through the event can lead to burnout and cause you to miss the rest of the limited-time event. Focus on a single weapon at a time, and only spend some of your playtime farming.
