How to Vote Kick and Vote Dismiss a Player in FFXIV

Don't get trapped in a Duty with an AFK player - learn how to vote dismiss!

Final Fantasy XIV has the reputation of being a welcoming and positive game with little toxicity from its community. Even so, there comes a time when you may need to remove someone from a party, whether that's because they're inactive during a duty, they're not pulling their weight, or for any other valid reason.

It’s not immediately obvious how to kick someone from a Duty, however. This guide will help you learn how to dismiss someone from your party and start the process for adding another player to your Duty as a replacement.

How to vote to kick party members in FFXIV

The first step to kick someone from your Duty's party is to bring up the Party List from the Social menu. The Social menu can be opened by pressing 'O' on keyboard by default or by selecting it from  the Party section on the Main Menu. Next, right-click the name of the player you want to kick and select Vote Dismiss from the subcommands.

A small menu will appear that requires you to choose a valid reason to dismiss the player in question. Select the reason, and the vote will be sent to other party members, excluding the member you’ve voted to dismiss.

If the vote passes, the player you voted to be dismissed will be kicked from the group. They won’t be told the reason someone started the vote or that they’ve been dismissed. Provided you're taking part in a Duty Roulette, you can then replenish your ranks using the option that appears after losing a party member.

It’s important to use this feature responsibly and not kick anyone who doesn’t deserve it. As per the warning in the menu, unjustified use of the vote kick and dismiss functions can be punished by Square Enix. The valid reasons for kicking someone from your Duty are for being inactive, going offline, harassment, or cheating. You shouldn't vote to remove someone for missing a few button presses or after they’ve asked the group to pause for a moment, as you may find yourself on the receiving end of a message from FFXIV's admins.
