How to Get Island Laver in FFXIV's Island Sanctuary

Lavish in laver luxury.

In the process of upgrading your personal Island Sanctuary in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll be required to gather a variety of island materials. Island Laver is one material in particular you’ll want to keep a healthy supply of, as it’s used to craft items like Makeshift Soporific for catching the island’s largest animals, as well as some of the most commonly in-demand items in your island’s workshop.

Unlocking and ranking up your Island Sanctuary can be a lengthy process, but can be well worth the effort. Though the Island Sanctuary is advertised as a comfy get-away for casual players to relax, enthusiasts looking for content to grind may find themselves able to turn a pretty profit.

Where to find Island Laver

In order to collect Island Laver, you’ll need to enter Gather mode and look for gathering nodes called Seaweed Tangles, which can only be found underwater. No tools are required to gather Island Laver, so these materials are available straight from Sanctuary Rank one.

The two locations Island Laver can be found are:

  • Off the coast of the Coral Sands: The main location for farming Island Laver, also indicated by your Sanctuary Gathering Log. This area is submerged, so you’ll have to dive to access the gathering nodes here. Additionally, there are only eight Seaweed Tangle nodes, so be sure to interact with some of the Coral Formation nodes as well to respawn exhausted gathering points.

  • Off the coast of Pirate Bay: Like the Coral Sands location, you’ll have to swim underwater to access these submerged gathering nodes. Also similar to the Coral Sands spot, this area only contains seven Seaweed Tangle nodes, so mixing in some gathering from the Large Shell nodes will be required to farm Island Laver.
