FFXIV Dawntrail Benchmark Trailer Shows Off Incredible Locales, New Gear, and a Man Bun Hairstyle

The Dawntrail benchmark trailer showed off what we can expect for the new expansion's graphics.

Final Fantasy XIV’s Letter from the Producer Live 80 kicked off with a bang as Square Enix showed off the benchmark trailer for Dawntrail. In a five-minute long showcase of in-game, in-engine footage, FFXIV fans got the first views of what their characters might look like.

Kicking off with a scene that was almost identical to the cinematic trailer, keen-eyed fans would quickly realize this was an in-engine render instead, but given the high-quality visuals, you’d be forgiven for initially missing it. From the seas of Tural to the jungles and forests, much of the graphical enhancements upcoming in the new expansion were on display. And, we also got a sneak-peak of a new hairstyle with the Warrior of Light sporting a new man bun-style.

Switching to a battle scene against multiple enemies new and old, players were treated to some incredible visuals of new and prospective abilities, including some exciting Machinist and Ninja abilities.

The pace then shifted to show off some of the new crafter and gatherer gear, as well as some familiar NPCs. Finally, after a fly around some of the new Dawntrail zones, a series of Dungeon scenes were showcased, along with new job actions for the brand new Viper job. The benchmark concluded with what looked like a preview of the Viper Limit Break.

The benchmark experience doesn’t end there. Revealed as part of the broadcast, the FFXIV: Dawntrail Benchmark will be released in just a day’s time, on Sunday, April 14, from 12:00am PDT (3:00am PDT). Players will be able to download the benchmark and test out their setup for the new expansions. If it’s anything like previous benchmarks, you’ll be able to customize your character, and possibly try out the new race, female Hrothgar.
