It’s that time again, another Live Letter from the Producer for Final Fantasy XIV dropped a bunch of new information for the game. Along with a release date for Patch 6.2 and a stunning trailer, we got more details on content and how the game is changing. One of the many standout additions is in the graphics options. We previously covered the planned Patch 7.0 graphics update that’s coming in the future, which included preview screenshots. But Patch 6.2 is laying the groundwork with new options for every platform.
The main new option coming to FFXIV Patch 6.2 is dynamic resolution. For those unaware, dynamic resolution automatically adjusts the game’s resolution in real time to help maintain a better balance between visual quality and performance. This allows you to keep a higher framerate in moments when the action gets hectic and would experience slow down due to the demand on your system. The game may not look as good in those moments, but better framerates give you a better gameplay experience. It also lets the game look as good as possible when your system can handle higher resolution.
While PC players have always been able to adjust settings and PS5 players can choose graphics priorities, dynamic resolution is a brand-new option for FFXIV. Below is the slide from the Live Letter that detailed dynamic resolution coming to FFXIV Patch 6.2. Keep in mind that it will be a beta version.
For more on what’s in the future, check out our breakdown of the FFXIV 7.0 graphics update. This includes higher resolution textures, improved object quality, and better lighting and shadows. You will also see high quality grass and more objects in the environment. Together, all these improvements seem to make a striking difference. With these improvements, dynamic resolution will help ensure more systems can handle the update when it comes around.
