Final Fantasy XIV's Tokyo Fan Festival opened with a keynote from the game's director and producer, Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida, who delivered a lot of new information for the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. After showing off a piece of concept art for the eight-man raids arriving in 7.0, Yoshi-P revealed which previous raid series will be getting an Ultimate difficulty version — Shadowbringer's Eden raids.
The newest Ultimate Raid will be known as Futures Rewritten (Ultimate). Sharing a name with Patch 5.4, the Ultimate raid will feature a new storyline involving the characters Ryne and Gaia. Outside of Patch 5.4's artwork being shown to announce the raid, Yoshi-P gave no further details regarding the content itself. Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) will arrive alongside the upcoming Alliance raid in Patch 7.1.
Ultimate raids in FFXIV revitalize older content beyond their Savage counterparts by taking bosses found in previous raids, Trials, and Dungeons, and putting them into a gauntlet-style encounter. The final boss of the Ultimate Raid is unique to the high-end difficulty. Conquering an Ultimate raid is an incredibly difficult feat, after which players can show off unique weapons, Adventurer Plates, and titles. Teams from around the world race to become the world's first group to complete the content.
With the exception of Shadowbringers, each expansion has gotten two Ultimate Raids. No news was given if Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) will be Dawntrail's only Ultimate Raid or if another will follow. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, history has shown that Dawntrail can expect a future Ultimate-difficulty raid announced during an upcoming Live Letter from the Producer.
