FFXIV Plans For at Least Two More Patches Before Dawntrail

Content drought? What content drought!

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is winding down at the end of the expansion’s lifespan, with Dawntrail on the horizon, but that won’t stop Square Enix from putting out a few more content patches. That’s the info that Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida gave reporters on Jan. 7 when asked about the upcoming content for patch 6.55.

In an interview published by Famitsu on Jan. 8, Yoshi-P explained that 6.55 won’t be the final patch of Endwalker. “After patch 6.55, patches will continue intermittently with patches 6.57 and 6.58, so I hope you will enjoy a variety of content until 7.0” described Yoshida in response to a question about the new story content in 6.55.

It’s partially known what that new content might entail. For example, the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI collaboration is set to land sometime in April, which could mean it’s the 6.57 or 6.58 patch. Additionally, it’s likely players will see another PvP season come and go in the time between Jan. 16 and the release of Dawntrail. So that means more glamour, more minions, and maybe a mount or two.

Talking specifically about 6.55 and the content within that patch, Yoshi-P was pretty open. Main Story Quest-wise the focus will be on newly introduced female Hrothgar NPC Wuk Lamat. He explained that the upcoming story was “relatively simple” but they wanted to take the time to portray the character Wuk Lamat. He also stated the MSQ for 6.55 would be around two hours long, and have some humorous interludes.

Speaking of humor, Yoshida also mentioned that the latest Hildibrand Adventures would also come to a close in patch 6.55. This was already known thanks to the patch notes, but it was good to have some confirmation.

Overall, the interview gave some hope that the long months before Dawntrail won’t be quite so dry on the content front as expected. Dawntrail is set for a Summer 2024 release, but Square Enix won’t let its FFXIV fans go hungry for that long.
