Final Fantasy XIV has suspended the automatic demolition of player housing for the Japanese Data Centers in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula of Japan on Jan. 1. News of the pause of housing demolition was released Jan. 4 on FFXIV’s official Lodestone site and social media.
In the post, Square Enix acknowledged the disaster: “From all of us on the FFXIV development and management team, our hearts go out to those who were affected by the massive earthquake that occurred in Noto Peninsula on January 1st, Monday," the post said. “Due to the damages and other factors, we have decided to temporarily suspend the automatic demolition of estates.”
The Auto-Demolition counter will be suspended from Thursday, Jan. 4 from 3:23am PST. The suspension will affect all worlds in the Elemental Data Center, Gaia Data Center, Mana Data Center, and Meteor Data Center. This list consists of all the Japanese Data Centers. No international Data Centers have been affected by the suspension of demolition. During this time, no house, estate, or player apartment will be prepared for Auto-Demolition. If your estate or land is currently being prepared for Auto-Demolition, you can cancel this status by entering your estate or constructing an estate on your land.
The Noto Peninsula Earthquake struck Japan on Jan. 1, affecting dozens of towns and citizens, and thousands of people. Over 60 people have been killed according to the most recent reports, with more than 300 injured. The Noto Penisula sits on the northern coast of Japan, bordered by the Sea of Japan, or East Sea.
Final Fantasy XIV has previously suspended housing player housing demolition during other national and international disasters. Most notably, player housing demolition was disabled for all Data Centers for over two years during COVID-19 pandemic, only returning during Patch 6.3 in January 2023. No set date has been given for housing demolition to return for the Japanese data centers.
