FFXIV Teases Players with New Character Art Ahead of Dawntrail’s Release

FFXIV Twitter will break if they release a Wuk Lamat one…

Final Fantasy XIV’s social media accounts are teasing players with new illustrations of their favorite characters. The posts, which began on Feb. 8, have now showcased Urianger and Thancred and feature illustrations by Yusuke Mogi, who previously created official character art for Stormblood and many other iconic FFXIV images, such as the Patch 6.1 Newfound Adventure artwork.

The first post, captioned “Prithee perceive this new illustration of Urianger to commend the release of #FFXIV Patch 6.55,” showcased Urianger wielding a deck of Astrologian cards and his ornate planisphere. Replies to the post were concerningly “enthusiastic,” dubbing Urianger as "babygirl," "pretty," and "wife."

The second, posted Feb. 9, has leaned into the “This is Thancred” meme and has the dauntless Gunbreaker looking distinctly more armored than usual. There’s a passing resemblance to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’s Jetstream Sam, most likely due to the knee pads.

These posts are reportedly celebrating the 6.55 patch release, and if this trend continues, we'll likely get to see the entire cast of the Scions and other companions in FFXIV. So expect to see Y'sthola, Krile, the Twins, Graha, Estinien, Erenville, and more.

Some also speculate that this will culminate in new illustrations of upcoming Dawntrail characters, such as Wuk Lamat, and another possible character reveal — like, for instance, the currently unnamed white-haired Miqo'te on the left side of the Dawntrail cover art.

Teases like these are always going to get players excited. Some FFXIV players have intense feelings for their favorite characters, and just one piece of official art is enough to set them off. Here's hoping everyone's favorites make the cut.
