In Final Fantasy XIV, there are plenty of ways to make gil, especially as a crafter or gatherer. But one overlooked way is through the Ishgardian Restoration content and the reward currency from that, Skybuilders’ Scrips.
Skybuilders’ Scrips are a reward for gathering materials and building items for the restoration of Ishgard. These Scrips can be traded in for a multitude of items, from glamour gear, to mounts, minions, fashion accessories, and more. Additionally, the vast majority of these items can be sold for gil, making them a great way for earning some extra currency.

Skybuilders’ Scrips are earned in two ways, from gathering materials in the Diadem and having them appraised and crafting special Ishgardian Restoration collectibles to trade in. For more details on earning Skybuilders’ Scrips, check out the Diadem guide.
Once you’ve earned Skybuilders’ Scrips, you can trade them to Enie in the Firmament (X: 12, Y: 14) in return for a plethora of items. This is also where the gil-making comes in. The majority of these items can be sold for gil on the market board. In essence, you’re trading your time in the Diadem/crafting items for gil.
Making gil with Skybuilders Scrips in FFXIV
The first step is to determine how many Scrips you can make. On average, with a good pace, you can gather 300-320 Scrips-worth of materials every 20 minutes in the Diadem, or around 1,000 an hour. Crafting is faster but requires the materials. If you’re not gathering the materials yourself, you’ll be spending gil to get them, which defeats the purpose. As a result, you’ll want to gather materials for Scrips, and then either sell the materials for gil, or craft them into items for more scrips yourself.
Next, it’s time to decide what to sell. There are three different lists of items that Enie will trade for Skybuilders’ Scrips, a regular list, Gear/Furnishings, and Materials/Materia/Items. The first menu features mounts, emotes, minions, and fashion accessories. Everything here except the Pegasus Whistle, Dress-up Estinien, Pegasus Colt, and Triple Triad cards can be traded on the market board for gil.
In the Gear/Furnishings menu, everything except the costume coffers can be sold. Finally, in the Materials/Materia/Items, everything except for the Sky Pirate Spoils and Firmament Aetheryte Tickets can be sold.
Picking the right items
In general, you need to select items that will sell in good volume for a reasonable price. From the first menu, emotes, minions, and fashion accessories are often a good option, as they sell for relatively large amounts for just a few thousand Scrips.
Gear and Furnishings are also a great idea, as these glamour items, especially items like the Skyworker’s Singlet, sell very frequently. Furnishings are always big ticket items, but make sure you’re picking furniture pieces that have wide appeal. Something like the humble Apron Rack is a very popular furnishing item, as it fits in almost any house.
Finally, materials are a great option, due to their rarity and the items crafted from them, and dyes are a fantastic choice. Materia is almost never worth trading due to fluctuating markets and the ease of obtaining it from other places.
Volume over big-ticket items

You could easily fall into the trap of investing a lot of time into an item, knowing it has a huge gil value, and actually end up making less gil overall. For example, the Ufiti Horn is one of the most sought-after of the Skybuilders’ Scrips mounts. It sells for hundreds of thousands of gil, and requires 8,400 Skybuilders’ Scrips. As a result, it can seem like a good choice. But when we look into the time spent earning it, you’re facing eight to nine hours of time in the Diadem, or over 130 crafted items. Couple this with the fact the price is so high that the mount doesn’t often sell on the market board, and you’re investing a (relatively) large amount of time into something you’ll maybe sell once a month.
Compare this to something like the rare dyes or even conventional dyes. Rare dyes cost 500 Skybuilders’ Scrips and sell for a good chunk of gil, and you can farm two an hour in the Diadem or with around 10 crafted items, and they sell very frequently. Conventional dyes are purchased for 100 Skybuilders’ Scrips and sell for several thousand gil, with even less time commitment. Again, they sell very fast as well.
Ultimately, the best use of your time is to sell items like materials, dyes, and glamour gear in large quantities rather than grind for the mounts to sell.
