The Voice Actors of FFXIV's Twelve Gods Have Been Revealed, and There's Plenty of Familiar Faces

It's been nine years since we've heard one of these VAs!

At the close of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker’s 6.55’s Main Story Quest (MSQ), the credits rolled on the story of this expansion. With it came the confirmation of the voice actors of The Twelve, the gods of Eorzea who’d appeared as part of the Myths of the Realm series of Alliance Raid, and there were some familiar voices among them.

As detailed in the credits, and shared on Reddit, most of the Twelve share their English voice actor with characters from FFXIV, whether that be Endwalker, or earlier expansions. In short, Byregot shares a voice with Vrtra (Nigel Betts), Rhalgr is Estinien (Robert Vernon), Azeyma is Nidhana (Sheena Bhattessa), Nald’Thal is Matsya (Jay Saighal), Nophica is Y’shtola (Robyn Addison), Althyk is Golbez (Joseph Capp), Nymeia and Halone are Livingway (Bethan Cullinane), Menphina is Zero (Cassie Layton), Oschon is Ardbert (Joe Dempsie), and Llymlaen is Hilda (Jaye Jacobs). Thaliak is the only god without a returning actor, and is voiced by James Day.

Fans were perhaps most shocked by the return of Hilda’s voice actress Jay Jacobs. Hilda as a character hasn’t been voiced for almost nine years, with her last voiced content in the main story of FFXIV: Heavensward. The character has appeared since but not voiced. Fans on the Reddit post hoped this would mean a return of the character, or at least the return of Jacobs.

Details on some of these characters were available before, with voice actors making posts on social media. However, not all actors posted about their role, and some characters were left open for speculation.

In different languages, there are shared voice actors, but not for the same gods. For instance, Kenji Hamada, the Japanese voice of Estinien, also voices Byregot in the JP dub. This appears to be the same for other languages, with voice actors sharing roles, but not always the same role in other regions.

Keen eyes might spot that it’s more than just the voices that these characters share. It appears like Nophica, Menphina, Llymlaen, and Oschon use the same or similar face models to Y’shtola, Zero, Hilda, and Ardbert, respectively. This is most visible in the noses, but in cases like Hilda and Lymlaen, as well as Zero and Menphina, the appearance is pretty uncanny. Or perhaps fans are staring too long at these characters.

Beyond that, there’s a sentiment that The Twelve’s personalities match up with some of the matching voice actors and actresses. Whether this is intentional, or a coincidence is unknown.

FFXIV: Endwalker’s credits rolled following the conclusion of its two-year life span. Dawntrail, the next FFXIV expansion, is set for release in Summer 2024.
