Mail makes the world go ‘round. Probably. I dunno. That’s a line the pelican mailman from the old Animal Crossing games probably had, so I’m choosing to believe that it stands true in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The mail is great, and sending letters is a great way to send items (or spam, or trash) to your friends and villagers. We’re going to show you everything you need to know to send letters in Animal Crossing.
How To Send A Letter
To send a letter in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’re going to want to head to your island’s airport. To the right of Orville’s desk is a postcard stand. Interact with that and you’ll be prompted to select a style of letter. Each one costs 200 Bells to send and deliver. There is no extra fee for attaching an item.
How To Write A Letter
After you select your stationary, you’re going to have to write the damn letter. This is the hardest part. What are you going to say? How are you going to say it? Are you going to profess your love to Canberra? What if she rejects you? How will you live with that? It’s fine. Maybe just something simple. A “hey, what’s up?” or something. That’s easy enough, right?
No? Okay, we’ll send a letter to a friend. Orville will ask you if you want to send a letter to Your Future Self, A Resident, or A Friend. Choose whichever one you want.
After you’ve selected your recipient, you’ll be presented with a keyboard for you to type out your message. Once you finish writing, you’ll also have the option to attach a present by clicking on the gift button in the bottom right hand corner. You can send most items, but there are restrictions. You can’t send turnips in the mail, for example.
Once you’re done, hit okay and your letter will be whisked away via the power of birds and the internet.
If you’re feeling particularly nice, send gifts to your villagers in town. Chances are they’ll take the gift and either display it in their house or wear it. Just don’t get the idea that you can send Tom Nook anything. He’s already taken enough from you and doesn’t need your piddling gifts. The same can be said for any other services providing NPCs. No sucking up to Isabelle! She has a job to do and can’t be bothered to wear all the clothes you keep sending her. Also, does she even have a house? Where does she sleep at night?
