Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 has launched earlier, so it’s time to remind all your abandoned villagers that you are still alive. Along with the Happy Home Paradise DLC, which launches later today, the free update introduces a wealth of new features and items for you to customize your island with.
Of course, the biggest appeal lies in all the new ways you can continue to perfect your island. One of the coolest features is being able to hang some furniture and lighting fixtures, along with adding an accent wall to your room. But like most things in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, this isn’t directly explained when you load up your island. But you’ve got us. Let’s walk you through it in this guide.
How to Get Your Pro Designer License
Obtaining the license is the only way to add accent walls or hang items from the wall and ceiling. When you load up your island, make your way to the Town Hall and interact with the Nook Miles machine inside. Select “Redeem Nook Miles” and scroll down the list until you see the Pro Decorating License. This will cost you 2,500 Nook Miles. Once you purchase it, it will be instantly applied to your account when you exit the machine.
How to Use Accent Walls
Once you have your license, make your way back to your home and pick which room you want to add an accent wall to. Press down on the D-Pad to bring up the decorating menu, then select which wallpaper you want to make an accent. Rotate your camera and face the wall you want to make an accent. If you don’t adjust the camera, you will automatically make the back wall the accent. So if you want one of the side walls to be different, make sure to be looking directly at it before you press X.
After adding the accent, it will remain that way regardless of whether you change the wallpaper for the rest of the room. You can only have one accent wall applied in a room at a time. To remove an accent wall enter your decoration menu by pressing down on the D-Pad. Then press right on the D-Pad to bring up your inventory of furniture, wallpaper, etc. Now find which wallpaper in your inventory you used to accent then press X to remove it. Remember: you are not required to use accent wallpaper, but it definitely will help give a room more character if it works nicely with the rest of your furniture.
How to How to Hang Lights and Furniture
As for hanging items on the wall or ceiling, go to a room and then press down on the D-Pad to bring up the decorating menu. From here, press the + button to change your perspective of the room and where you are applying decorations. Pressing it once will shift the perspective to the walls, allowing you to mount objects onto these surfaces. Remember: not every item can go on a wall, so don’t expect to just hang a couch several feet in the air!
You can move any of these items by highlighting them with your cursor and holding down A. This will grab the item and let you move it around the different walls in your home.
For hanging lights from the ceiling, press the + button a third time to shift to a downward perspective. Now, select your hanging light to drop it into the environment. Just like any other piece of furniture, you can grab onto it with the A button and move it around the room. This is a wonderful way to make your space feel lived-in and add some nice accent lighting to specific areas. Remember: you will need to actually buy the suspended lights. Mine didn’t start appearing in Nook’s Cranny until I got my Pro Decorating License.
