Upon learning that a video game based on the 2018 horror movie A Quiet Place is in development, I realized I was surprised the movie hadn’t really done anything in that space yet. Not in terms of an adaptation, but just in that there are a lot of horror movies doing tie-in things in games like Dead by Daylight (although, that’s not going very well for some folks involved right now). So I guess I just had a moment of “oh right, I guess A Quiet Place hasn’t really moved in that direction yet.” But it is now, because there’s a game set within the universe of Jim from The Office’s horror series in the works.
There’s not much that we can tell about the project just yet beyond that it won’t be a direct adaptation of A Quiet Place or A Quiet Place Part II, as the website for the game says it will be “an untold story of survival in the A Quiet Place universe.” So don’t expect to see the Abbott family make an appearance in the game when it launches next year. The project is in development at iLLOGIKA, with Saber Interactive acting as publisher.

But that’s about all we know at this point. We don’t even know what genre the game will be. While the setting and all its alien monsters could theoretically make way for an action game, the series itself hasn’t often leaned into that side of things, instead opting for more…er…quiet drama on top of its horror elements. So a choice-driven horror game along the lines of Until Dawn could also be a possibility. A statement from Saber Interactive to IGN says the gameplay “captures the compelling suspense, emotion and drama for which the series is famous,” which doesn’t sound like the buzzwords you’d be using for an action game. So I guess we’ll know more about what shape a Quiet Place video game takes in the coming months.
