An Unpacking Clone Has Been Delisted from Storefronts After Devs Put it on Blast

The team at Witch Beam called the situation "demoralising" on social media.

Within the same day, two indie games were subject to their game’s likeness being used by someone else. Outerverse’s assets were used in an NFT scam, and Unpacking was subject to a ripoff making its way up the iOS charts. However, while Outerverse is dealing with the legal side of things, the game using Unpacking’s systems has vanished from the store.

The app, which was called Unpacking Master, caught the attention of Unpacking developer Witchbeam Games, as the team received a flood of fan comments on the clone’s advertisements on TikTok.

On Twitter, the team at Witch Beam described the situation as “demoralising,” and said that if it were to release a mobile version like Unpacking Master pretended to be, it would announce it officially. However, as Polygon points out, the game is no longer available on iOS App Store or the Google Play store.

In two follow-up tweets the team directed us to when asked for comment, Witch Beam thanked fans for their support, and expressed relief the copycat game was no longer for sale.

We just wanted to say thank you for the overwhelming support in the few hours since we wrote this thread. It’s meant so much to us. As an update, Apple have taken down the app, although it is still present on the Google Play store. Thank you again for caring about our game.

Hopefully final update: the app is now gone from the Google Play store too. Thanks to everyone who reported it as a copycat!
While Unpacking Master has been delisted in most territories, some fans have said it’s still live in places like Norway, but have been reporting it accordingly.
