Battlefield 2042 Open Beta Gets Dates and Details for Next Week

The beta will be open for those with pre-orders early.

Battlefield 2042’s open beta has a date, as well as a lengthy breakdown of what to expect when the test run goes live from October 6 to October 9 next month. The first two days will be only open to those who have pre-ordered the game, then it will open up to the general public for the final two days.

DICE has published an FAQ on the beta, but the broad strokes are that it will be available on all platforms (PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S), you won’t need PlayStation Plus to participate on PS4 and 5, but will need Xbox Live Gold for Xbox platforms. One notable setback is that any progress you make in the open beta won’t carry over to the main game when it launches on November 19.

As for what you’ll actually be playing, Battlefield 2042’s open beta will include four playable specialists, Webster Mackay, Maria Falck, Pytor “Boris” Gustkovsky, and Wikus “Casper” Van Daele. You’ll be able to take these four into two modes: Conquest and Orbital. Conquest is the more traditional sandbox Battlefield experience, while Orbital is focusing on the map conditions that Battlefield 2042 has been showcasing since its reveal, requiring you to fight in close proximity to a rocket launch dealing with the chaos that entails.

In other news:

Battlefield 2042 is being released on two generations of consoles, but EA and DICE have confirmed that they’ll both be pulling from two distinct player pools for online play. While the game is crossplay compatible between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will only be able to play with each other. Granted, that’s still a bigger player base than PS5 and Xbox Series players have, as more of the old systems have sold than the new ones.
