Destiny 2 players discovered a new exploit that allows them to get unlimited Legendary Shards last week, and they’ve gotten so proficient at it some players have found ways to farm them without actually having to sit at their game and do it manually.
The exploit was found during Destiny 2’s new season, Season of the Haunted, that began last week, and begins by buying and dismantling rare armor sets that debuted in the Witch Queen expansion. This includes the Midnight Oil Suit (Titan), Gumshoe Gumption Suit (Hunter), or Inspector’s Suit (Warlock) sets. As of this writing, dismantling these sets will reward you with with Legendary Shards, but considering this is atypical of items of this rarity, but Bungie still hasn’t patched it out in the days since the exploit was discovered. But until then, players have also been using Rahool, one of the game’s merchants to replenish their glimmer to buy more of these armor sets, and given that the resources you get from dismantling these items always outpaces what it costs to replenish, it’s possible to do this on an endless loop until you’re content with your Legendary Shards.
Some players on PC are using macro commands to automate the entire process, allowing them to just let the game run on its own and farm Legendary Shards without you having to manually dismantle and buy any of this yourself. YouTube creator Misleading demonstrates this in the video below:
Notably, this isn’t the first time players have used macros to exploit a system in Destiny 2. One popular use for third-party automation was The Shattered Throne experience farm. This saw users endlessly killing a hallway full of weak enemies with the Trinity Ghoul exotic bow to increase their overall Power. While the glitch is helping many a Destiny 2 player, it’s likely Bungie will be patching this in the coming days, so take advantage of the exploit while you can.
