Everything You Missed From Today's PlayStation State of Play

Did Sony's first big event of the year measure up?

Sony tends to use the term State of Play loosely, employing it for everything from single-game deep dives to new console reveals. Today’s State of Play, however, is a bigger look at the PlayStation ecosystem’s upcoming library, including both older titles and and a few new reveals. If you didn’t get a chance to watch live, we have the full rundown of what Sony revealed in their 30-minute show right here.

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake is getting an update under the title Intergrade for PlayStation 5. The new revamp includes a number of improvements and bits of added content, of which you can find the details and trailer here.
  • Sifu, a new game from Absolver developer Sloclap and publisher Devolver Digital, is a martial arts movie-inspired action game with stylish art and more than a little of Absolver’s foundation. It will come to PS5 later this year.
  • Crash Bandicoot 4 coming to PlayStation 5, as Activision had previously announced. The PS5 port includes Dual Sense integration, higher resolution, and no loading screens. It will be a free update for PS4 owners on Mar. 12.
  • Returnal from Housemarque gets a new explainer-trailer. The game looks to continue Housemarque’s personal style of arcadey gameplay but now in a third-person shooter. It also contains rogue-lite elements by changing the map up after every death.
  • Knockout City, which made its debut in last week’s Nintendo Direct, gets a turn in State of Play. Does Microsoft have a show soon? Maybe it should complete the trifecta, like that one weird E3 where Kingdom Hearts III trailers were inexplicably everywhere.
  • Solar Ash, Hyper Light Drifter developer Heart Machine’s new 3D adventure-platformer title, gets plenty of new gameplay. The traversal is fast and kinetic, similar to last year’s The PathlessSolar Ash is reconfirmed for PlayStation 4 and 5 in 2021.
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach gets a title in a new trailer, reminding you that this game series is incredibly popular. Unlike the other games, this one seems to be a full 3D first-person adventure, similar to Amnesia but with animatronic animals stalking you instead. The game will also hit this year.
  • Lorne Lanning introduces Oddworld: Soulstorm and calls it 2.9D platforming, which I am only putting on the record to state my absolute objection to this term. You can use the Dual Sense vibrations to feel Abe’s heartbeat, if you’re into that. If you are, you can do it on PS4 and PS5 in just a few short weeks on Apr. 6, also as a PS5 PS+ game for launch.
  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits gets a new trailer, which looks like a Laika movie in game-form. The game launches on Aug. 24 on PlayStation 4 and 5.
  • Deathloop, Arkane’s stylish PS5-exclusive first-person action title, gets an expectedly stylish action trailer. While the game was originally supposed to come out at the PS5 launch, it has been delayed to 2021. It remains PlayStation 5-exclusive, at least for a limited time, despite Microsoft making an acquisition of publisher Bethesda.

That’s the long and short of today’s State of Play! While there are still a lot of hopes and dreams for both announced and unannounced software like God of War and Horizon: Forbidden West still to come, Sony outlined what the next few months of PS5 titles will look like in their 30-minute show. Even just a few of those should keep a lot of owners happy.
