What a day for Destiny, huh? The Season of Plunder just dropped, and we got a lot of details on the upcoming Lightfall — the new Neptune location, Strand subclasses, and more. Lightfall is available to pre-order now, and in something of an unusual move, doing so will allow you to play around with a new Exotic weapon from that expansion right now. Here’s how to get the Quicksilver Storm Exotic Auto Rifle in Destiny 2.
All you have to do to unlock the Quicksilver Storm is pre-order Lightfall + Annual Pass on any platform. But once you do, you have to actually pick it up in game. You might expect you grab it from the postmaster, Rahool, or Banshee, but it’s actually tucked away in the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower. Head over there and check out the Lightfall section to grab it. There’s no obvious indication that this is where the weapon would be found, which is kind of odd, so hopefully that helps you out.
As for the Quicksilver Storm itself, it’s pretty cool — it’s a 720 RPM kinetic auto rifle with the intrinsic perk “Rocket Tracers,” which fires mini-homing rockets on repeated hits. Scoring multiple hits with these rockets then loads grenades into the weapon. You can switch to grenade launcher mode by holding the reload button, and then fire your store of grenades one by one. We’ll see if this is a dominant weapon in the PVE or PVP meta, but even if it isn’t weapons with alternate firing modes like this are fun to play around with. Plus, it’s a different aesthetic than we’re used to in Destiny 2, influenced by the nanotech liquid metal capabilities of the Cloud Striders. You can see the weapon actually fill up with liquid when you reload, which is neat.
