Industries of Titan just recently rolled out into early access, at least on the Epic Games Store — those on Steam will need to wait until 2021. Despite the fact that the game isn’t complete, this steampunk strategy game comes with a fleshed out, detailed tutorial that explains nearly all of the game’s systems as you go. We’re two hours in and the game is still walking us through all of the steps needed to make a successful city. But it doesn’t tell you absolutely everything. Our Industries of Titan tips guide will answer a few questions you may very well encounter.
You Can View The Power Grid Totals
How you set up your power grid is entirely up to you. Is it one sprawling grid or two separate ones? Maybe each building is entirely self sustained? Either way, it is possible to see what the power balance is for each. Just go to any source of power within that grid, select it, and click the “Details” button in the bottom right. This pop up will give you a full rundown of what is making and using energy. It also provides the current total balance at the bottom so you can see if you’re generating surplus or using up reserves.
Keep Your Mouse Away From the Burrow Button
A unique feature of Industries of Titan is the ability to have your buildings burrow into the ground. This can completely protect them from enemy raids, but is only available for single structures. Though you can construct two buildings of the same type next to each other and combine them for greater benefits, they will no longer be able to burrow.
That said, if you’re inspecting a single building, don’t go near the burrow button. If you can afford it and accidentally click, the game will burrow it straight away, setting you back 300 Credits.
Workers Do Need to Reach Storage Bins
In Industries of Titan you not only manage the city itself, but you also control what is built inside some buildings. From power stations and batteries to waste storage bins, there are a ton of options. While some items like the Microtransaction Station does indicate how citizens will enter it, others don’t. Storage bins, for example, don’t tell you whether or not your workers will need physical access to it. If you build a bin surrounded on all sides, your employees will be unable to put anything in or take anything out. Save those remote spaces for batteries and fuel tanks!
Make Sure You Have Plenty of Storage
You may spend some time just waiting for materials to accumulate so you can build structures. A few times I found myself getting frustrated as the number wasn’t going up. The problem? I didn’t have enough storage. Even if you have access to materials from ruins or deposits, the game doesn’t count them as available for construction unless they’re stored in one of your buildings.
Don’t Underestimate Your Need for Employees
We’re not talking about your employee’s wants and needs here. Rather, we’re talking about the sheer number of employees you have. Especially with the default AI priorities it can take forever for your workers to get around to cleaning up trash or surveying ruins. The “Move Resources” priority also includes gathering from deposits and each of those takes a significant amount of time to deplete. Stock up on your workers or unassign them from some of the zones so they can also do other tasks.
And that’s it for now! Check back throughout the game’s early access for more tips. Have some of your own? Leave them in the comments below!
