Announced at today’s Take-Two earnings, the upcoming Marvel tactical RPG that debuted earlier in the year has been hit with a delay. While originally intended to release in March 2022, it has been confirmed today by developer Firaxis that the title has been pushed back until the second half of the calendar year, meaning anywhere from a three-to-nine month delay.

The news doesn’t come as a huge shock, as several of Take-Two/2K’s biggest games of the year — like Tiny Tina’s Wonderland and WWE2K2 — were strangely concentrated in March. Regardless of whatever development processes need more time with Midnight Suns, it makes a lot of business sense to delay something out of that month into the next financial year.
The Firaxis title takes a lot of inspiration from their previous work on XCOM, but charts a different path with identifiable heroes and a card-style structure for major attacks. While there was some mixed response to this structure, it is unknown if the delay will address any audience concerns, though Firaxis does say it will be used for “more story, cinematics, and overall polish.”
