In Monster Hunter: World, any hunter will tell you to take advantage of each and every way to farm materials. The long-running series puts a lot of emphasis on building the best weapon and armor sets for any situation. This often means grinding against monsters, hoping that one crafting material you desperately need will drop this time.
One mechanic that can make the grind a little less painful is the Monster Hunter Tailraider Safari. This sends out a group of Palicos to fight automatically, bringing back their spoils to fill your coffers. Our Monster Hunter: World Tailraider Safari guide will help you understand how to use this mechanic and make the most of the safari!

How to Unlock the Tailraider Safari in Monster Hunter: World
The Tailraider Safari unlocks as you progress through the main story in Monster Hunter: World. When you unlock the Research Base, you can talk to the older lady on the ship. She’ll explain the basics of the Tailraider Safari to you. From there, you can talk to her or the Housekeeper Palico to send Palicos off to gather materials.
Using the Tailraider Safari in Monster Hunter: World
With the Tailraider Safari, you send three Palicoes off into the wild, gathering materials and fighting monsters. They aren’t just any old Palicos, though; which of your felyne friends appear and how competent they are depend on a few factors.
Palicos you can send on a Safari are randomly provided by the game, from your Guild Card List, or from your squad (if you are a part of one). If a Palico from a Guild Card or squad pops up, they’re more likely to have higher stats. By extension, they’ll get more rewards. As you progress through the game and make more friends in Monster Hunter: World, it won’t be difficult to have a team that’s completely maxed out in all three stats: Research, Gathering, and Hunting. High level players should basically always have three maxed out squads to choose from, so the decision becomes easy. Just pick any party you want!
Choosing Your Destination – Monster Hunter: World Tailraider Safari
The three different stats provide more of three different things. Hunting increases the number of materials you get from monsters — large and small. Gathering increases the amount of plants, mushrooms, bones, and ore you get. Finally, Research dictates how many Investigations the Tailraider Safari will unlock each time. Later on in the game, this becomes one of their most valuable benefits.
Additionally, any areas that show parts of the Safari with red paw symbols give your Palicos more rewards. That’s because the local Grimalkyne tribe will help them out. It’s a good idea to pick paths that have a red paw whenever they’re available! But you can skip them if the bonus is for something you really don’t need.
A Tailraider Safari will take five regular quests to finish. When they return, after you finish five missions on your own, you can reap all of the rewards. If you want, you can also pick up interim rewards from the Housekeeper, but in most cases, you may as well wait. Safari rewards are almost always be lower tier items. Basically, your Palicoes will not be return with Elder Dragon gems, But there are some unique materials you can only get from the Tailraider Safari.
Unique & Useful Tailraidier Safari Materials
There are currently two unique materials you can only retrieve from Tailraider Safaris:
Tailraider Voucher – The Tailraider Voucher is a Rarity 4 item that can be used to make a few items. Probably the most important item is the Faux Felyne Helm, which gives you a giant Palico head to wear. Who doesn’t want to look like an overgrown feline!? The Tailraider Voucher is also used to craft all three levels of the Rally Charm.
Sinister Cloth – The Sinister Cloth is an item that can only be obtained from Safari trips. They are used to create the Death Stench and Layered Death Stench armor sets. These sets offer decent resistance to Fire, Ice, and Water elements, as well as some useful skills. Sinister Cloth is also needed for the Commission Armor set: some well-rounded gear that’s helpful in many situations!
Dash Extract – This is a unique crafting material used in the creation of Dash Juice. The resulting item is a consumable that will cause you to use less stamina during most actions for a limited time. That makes it amazing for Bow and Insect Glaive players. Although Monster Hunter fans who use shields will also see some benefit. You can only get Dash Extract from three low-tier monsters in World, however, making the Tailraider Safari the perfect way to acquire it passively. You can earn Dash Extract by hunting (or raiding) Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, Diablos, and Black Diablos.
Nourishing Extract – This another pain in the ass crafting material you can get through the Tailraider Safari. Nourishing Extract is used in the creation of Mega Armorskin, Mega Demondrug, and Ancient Potions. These are valuable and time-saving items. They’re also very hard to come across… Nourishing Extract is only acquired from Odogaron, Paolumu, and Dodogama. This leads many players to simply “craft” them at the Elder Melder, by trading inferior items like Jagras parts.
Kelbi Horn – This, as you might guess, comes from the mighty Kelbi: those little deer-like creatures that don’t bother anybody. It’s a crafting item used as an alternative to Nourishing Extract when crafting Ancient Potions. Thanks to the relative rareness of Nourishing Extract, you usually want to use a Kelbi Horn instead when making Ancient Potions. This item is more of a convenience than a potential game changer (like Mega Demondrug and Mega Armorskin). So it’s not worth burning those other rare materials on it.
