Reddit user _problemz claims to have become the world’s first Pokemon Go player to hit the game’s highest level, but don’t worry — they needed cheating software to get there, and even then, it sounds like the last level was a hell of a slog.
Pokemon Go‘s leveling system presently caps out at 40, with the experience points needed to advance from level to level increasing over time. For instance, you only need 1,000 EXP to go from level 1 to 2, but 10,000 EXP to move from level 14 to 15. If you want to move from level 39 to level 40, you’re looking at 5,000,000 (yes, five million) experience points to nudge yourself up that one level.
Obviously, leveling is designed this way so that players don’t max out quickly, but Pokemon games are strongly about completionism, something that is inherent in the slogan “gotta catch ’em all.” Even if you fill your Pokedex, what about capturing or breeding Pokemon with maximum IVs? If you have a team with perfect stats, what about filling out the rest of the achievements? It never seems to end. With that in mind, it can be something of a relief to consider that without cheats, it’s going to be a long time before anyone is actually the very best, like no one ever was.
Also, that Redditor, _problemz? They’re not particularly interested in playing the game itself, and even requested Niantic delete their account following the experiment.
That last Level was even for me and my little bot a pain in the ass. 5 Milion XP – really? A total of 20 Milion (sic) XP was needed to hit the current maximum Level. I earned 280k XP per Hour on Average.
I don’t play this game – i just wanted to see how far i can push with the given Tools. And i learned so much out of this.
So did we, _problemz. So did we.
