Pokemon Electric Type Guide - Weaknesses, Strengths, and Counters

The strongest Electric type Pokemon in both Pokemon GO, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and their greatest weaknesses

As the list of Pokemon grows, and the number of Pokemon types with it, keeping up with how each type interacts with one another can be challenging. While type interactions are the same between mainline installments like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon GO, their strengths and weaknesses are utilized differently, especially when it comes to which Pokemon you want to use to be the very best. The good news is we’re here to help with our handy Pokemon-type guides focusing on strengths, weaknesses, and counters. In this guide we’re going to take a look at the Electric-type specifically.

Pokemon Electric Type Weaknesses & Counters

Electric type Pokemon have just one weakness: Ground. You’ll want to use a Pokemon of this type if you’re trying to deal with any Electric-type Pokemon.

That means you’ll want to find and use a strong Ground-type.

  • Ground: Using the Ground-type to stifle Electric’s current should be easy if you come prepared with strong Pokemon. Pokemon like Golem, Garchomp, Rhyperior, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Ursaluna, and more. Even bringing dual-type Water/Ground Pokemon is fine, given the Ground half of their typing will completely shut down any Electric-type attacks coming your way, since Ground-types are 100% immune to damage from Electric types.

Pokemon Electric Type Strengths

If you’re looking to use Electric-type Pokemon, the good news is that they are strong against two Pokemon types. Electric-type moves do double damage to both Flying and Water Pokemon

These strengths make Electric-type Pokemon an excellent counter to some powerful opponents:

  • Flying: Charizard, Staraptor, Honchkrow, Braviary, Iron Jugulis, etc
  • Water: Slowbro, Crawdaunt, Samurott, Clawitzer, Primarina, etc.

Electric-type Pokemon can severely damage opponents unfortunate enough to have a dual Water/Flying typing. The following Pokemon take 4x damage from Electric-type attacks thanks to their dual-typing: Gyarados, Pelipper, Swanna, and Cramorant.

Best Electric Type Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet

The best Electric-type Pokemon you can use in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet depends on how you judge them. If you’re doing comparing highest Attack/Special Attack base stats, the top five are:

  1. Zekrom (150 base Attack)
  2. Thundurus - Therian Forme (145 base Special Attack)
  3. Vikavolt (145 base Special Attack)
  4. Iron Hands (140 base Attack)
  5. Raging Bolt (137 base Special Attack)

Best Electric Type Pokemon in Pokemon GO

The best Electric type creatures in Pokemon GO depend on how you judge them. If you’re doing a straight up maximum CP comparison the top five are:

  1. Zekrom (4,565)
  2. Xurkitree (4,451)
  3. Thundurus - Therian Forme (4,137)
  4. Zapdos (3,987)
  5. Raikou (3,902)

The judgments change a bit when you’re actually battling, however. Shadow Raikou is by far the best Electric-type attacker in Pokemon GO, as long as it’s equipped with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge. Other strong Electric-type fighters are Xurkitree, Zekrom, Mega Manetric, Shadow Electivire. And Shadow Zapdos.
