Pokemon Fairy Type Weaknesses, Strengths, & Counters

The strongest Fairy type Pokemon in both Pokemon GO, Pokemon Violet, and their greatest weaknesses.

As the list of Pokémon grows, and the number of Pokémon types with it, keeping up with how each type interacts with one another can be challenging. While type interactions are the same between mainline installments like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon GO, their strengths and weaknesses are utilized differently, especially when it comes to which Pokémon you want to use to be the very best. The good news is we’re here to help with our handy Pokémon-type guides focusing on strengths, weaknesses, and counters. In this guide we’re going to take a look at the Fairy-type specifically.

If you’re looking for a complete Pokémon type chart, we have that as well, just head to the link below!

Pokémon Fairy Type Weaknesses & Counters

Fairy type Pokémon have two weaknesses: Poison and Steel. You’ll want to use one of these if you’re trying to deal with any Fairy-type Pokémon.

That means you’ll want to use strong Pokémon of those types.

  • Poison: Those interested in combating Fairy-types with Poison-type Pokémon have a few options. You can’t go wrong with Poison-types with high Attack and Special Attack stats like Sneasler, Galarian Slowking, Glimmora, and Toxtricity. If you want to double up on Fairy’s weakness to both Poison and Steel, Revavroom has both types covered. Iron Moth is also a good pick for offense and defense, since Fairy-type attacks aren’t very effective against the Fire half of its Fire/Poison-typing. There are, of course, powerful Legendary and Mythic Poison-type Pokémon you can use, like Eternatus, Okidogi, and Munkidori.
  • Steel: Your strongest Steel-type picks to combat the Fairy-type will be Metagross, Excadrill, Copperajah, and Gholdengo. You can use Scizor, who has a very high Attack stat, but be aware that Fairy-types will resist any Bug-type moves you use. Kingambit is another strong pick offensively, but his part Dark-typing will leave him open to being damaged normally by Fairy-type attacks, rather than resisting them. If you want Legendary or Mythical Steel-types, great choices would be Magearna, Solgaleo, and Zacian.

Pokémon Fairy Type Strengths

The good news, if you’re the one on the attack, is Fairy-type Pokémon have a lot of strengths against some rather powerful Pokémon types. They’ll do double damage to any Dark, Dragon, or Fighting Pokémon.

These strengths make Fairy-type Pokémon an excellent counter to some fearsome foes:

  • Dark: Tyranitar, Honchkrow, Weavile, Zoroark, Brute Bonnet, etc.
  • Dragon: Salamence, Garchomp, Haxorus, Dragapult, Baxcalibur, etc.
  • Fighting: Heracross, Breloom, Gallade, Conkeldurr, Great Tusk, etc.

Want your Fairy-type Pokémon to do even more damage against your opponent? The following Pokémon take 4x damage from Fairy-type attacks thanks to their dual-typing: Scrafty, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Single-Strike Urshifu, and Roaring Moon.

Best Fairy Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

The best Fairy-type Pokémon you can use in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet depends on how you judge them. If you’re comparing highest Attack/Special Attack base stats, the top five are:

  1. Zacian (Crowned Sword Form) (150 base Attack)
  2. Hatterene (136 base Special Attack)
  3. Flutter Mane (135 base Special Attack)
  4. Enamorous (135 base Special Attack)
  5. Iron Valiant (130 base Attack)

Best Fairy Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO

The best Fairy type creatures in Pokémon GO depend on how you judge them. If you’re doing a straight up maximum CP comparison the top five are:

  1. Xerneas (5,082)
  2. Zacian (4,964)
  3. Tapu Lele (3,853)
  4. Florges (3,730)
  5. Tapu Bulu (3,681)

The judgments change a bit when you’re actually battling, however. Mega Gardevior is by far the best Fairy-type attacker in Pokémon GO, as long as it’s equipped with Charm and Dazzling Gleam. Other strong Fairy-types fighters are Mega Diancie, Shadow Gardevior, Zacian, and Xerneas.
