Stardew Valley Abigail Gifts Guide

Pelican Town's resident goth girl could be the daughter of a wizard. Here are some of her favorite gifts.

If you're looking for Stardew Valley's resident goth kid, look no further than Abigail, the daughter of the couple that owns Pierre's General Store (Pierre and Caroline). She and her mother, Caroline, occasionally fight over Abigail's "alternative lifestyle" that includes dying her hair blue despite the fact that Caroline's hair color is green. Who defines normal in such a chaotic world? Caroline would call her daughter an occultist, and Abigail's tastes lean towards the witchy. If you want to befriend Abigail by giving her gifts, keep reading.

How Friendship Works in Stardew Valley

Whether it's Abigail or somebody else that you're looking to befriend, it's important to know how friendship works "under the hood" in Stardew Valley. The game measures every character's affection for you in up to 10 Hearts (14 for a spouse). This can be tracked on the Social tab of your inventory screen. Make conversation choices that they prefer or give them gifts, and that affection will increase. At certain thresholds, you trigger special events that often include more conversation options that can boost affinity. In some cases, you can even get gifts or recipes.

Each visible heart is worth 250 invisible points, so the various ways you can interact with a character build up this value. Talking to a village once daily can earn you 20 points for each conversation. Completing their random item delivery quests gets you 150 points. Seeing a movie with them is yet another activity that counts (200/100 pts. if they enjoy the flick). Every day you don't interact with a villager, their friendship points decrease by 2.

Giving gifts is without a doubt the most efficient way to progress friendship with a villager, but you can typically only give them two gifts per week, so it's best done in conjunction with the other options mentioned above.

Stardew Valley Gift-Giving Table

  • Loves: +80
  • Likes: +45
  • Neutral: +20
  • Dislikes: -20
  • Hate: -40

These gains are multiplied by 5 during the Feast of the Winter Star event and multiplied by 8 on a villager’s birthday. Abigail's birthday falls on Fall 13. You also gain an additive 10%/25%/50% bonus for giving higher-quality versions of an item when they’re available.

Abigail is definitely one of the more interesting characters that a lot of players gravitate toward. Befriending her is rather hard, mainly because she moves around so much. But like many NPCs, she'll be at the Saloon on Friday nights. She Loves Amethyst and Likes Quartz, so if you focus on early-game mining, you should get enough of these to help. Be sure to stockpile Pumpkins in the fall and give her two on her birthday. Pufferfish is another solid gift option if you're into fishing.
