Stardew Valley Goby Guide - How to Catch, Sell Price, Villager Reactions

Here's what you need to know about the brand-new fish in Stardew Valley

With the addition of patch 1.6 in Stardew Valley, there are now some new fish that you can catch, including the brand-new Goby. If you want to know how to catch the Goby and how much money you can make to get your hands on this new fish, this guide will tell you everything.

Where to catch a Goby in Stardew Valley

The Goby is caught in Waterfalls, which are predominantly found in the Cindersap Forest. You can use special lures to increase your chance of catching the Goby. Overall, there is a 15% chance to hook a Goby if you’re fishing in the right area. If you use the Curiosity Lure, it increases to 30% and a further 35% if you’re using Goby bait.

Luckily, these effects stack, so if you use all of these together, you are looking at a 55% chance of catching a Goby!

You don’t need to worry about having to catch a Goby for a bundle, as it isn’t used in any of them, even in the remixed bundles.

The Goby can be caught in any weather, any season and any time of day, making it one of the more versatile fish to catch. It does dart up and down quite a bit when trying to catch it, so make sure to take your time trying to catch it.

Goby Sell Prices & Energy Costs

The one thing you don’t want to do with Goby is consume it. It saps your energy if you consume it, and it doesn’t give you any health return whatsoever. This fish is solely to be used for gifting, artisanal purposes, or selling outright.

Gobies sell for a great amount of gold, even at base level, so they are worth catching and selling. They sell for a greater price depending on the skills you have or if you sell them as Roe.

When it comes to Artisanal Goby, you can get Goby Roe from the Fish Pond. You can then age the Roe, which will increase the sell price.

Gifting Goby in Stardew Valley

Goby isn’t particularly recommended to gift to anyone, not even Willy. The villagers will either have a neutral reaction, or they’ll dislike the gift you’ve given them.
