Destiny 2’s latest seasonal matchmade activity is here and it is a big one. The Coil is a larger and tougher version of Riven’s Lair, where players progress through tougher encounters and boss fights while platforming sections with both threats and secret chests. These secret chests that offer bonus rewards and Shards, which are motes exclusive to this activity. Collecting them is essential to raise the overall score to ensure a Platinum rank in The Coil. In fact, to even get close to Platinum rank, you have to collect all of these secret chests since they offer a lot of Shards and significantly boost the score of the activity. Shards can also be found in breakable jars scattered around platforming sections.
Tips for Finding Secret Chests
Before we get into where players can find these secret chests, there are a few things to keep in mind when looking for these chests:
- Make sure you have the Wombo Detector mod on your Ghost to easily find secret chests.
- You need to meet certain score thresholds to open the doors for these chests in The Coil, collecting each secret chest should boost your score enough to open the next secret chest.
- To be safe, I recommend looking for breakable jars in the area as they will have [actual term].
- The very first chest requires a score of 7500 to open.
- There is no time limit whatsoever so you can take it slow when looking for chests and jars.
- Keep in mind! When you find a secret chest, there will be two chests in the room, but only one of them is safe to open. The other chest has a trap that will kill you and players can tell the difference by looking under the chests to see if there are any holes for spikes.
The Coil Chest Locations
With that out of the way, here’s a guide on how players can find all these secret chests and ensure a high rank in the Coil:
Secret Chest #1
The first secret chest is in the Splintered Geode, which is the very first platforming section in The Coil. Players need to turn right after dropping down and seeing the first plate. After doing some platforming while going right, you should be able to see another plate across a gap. Cross the gap, but instead of going to the plate, turn right immediately to see an opening where there will be a secret chest. The Wombo Detector will make it easier to find.
Secret Chest #2
The second secret chest is in the Fetid Conduit, the second platforming section in The Coil. When you reach the second plate, you will see a small rock platform extruding on the left. Jump to the platform and look to the left where you will see another platform with an opening that leads to the chest.
Secret Chest #3
The third secret chest can be found in an altered version of the Fetid Conduit, which would be the first platforming section after the first boss encounter. Upon reaching the final plate in the room, look to the right and go through an opening in the wall that will lead you to the chest.
Secret Chest #4
The fourth secret chest can be found in an altered version of the Splintered Geode, which is the second platforming section after the first boss encounter. Upon reaching the final plate in this room, turn around and look to the left to see a rift that takes away the Pervading Darkness debuff. Go to this rift and look for an opening in the wall right behind it. This will lead you to the fourth secret chest.
Secret Chest #5
The fifth secret chest sits in another altered version of the Splintered Geode, which is the first platforming section after the second boss. As you enter this room, look to the right to see your first plate. Go to it and look to the right to see a platform. Head to the platform by platforming to a ledge on the left first, just to be safe. The secret chest will be in an opening on the platform.
Secret Chest #6
The sixth secret chest is in yet another altered version of the Fetid Conduit, which is the second platforming section after the second boss encounter. This one is tricky as you will look for a plate behind an obvious spike trap. Turn around from this plate and walk back on the path and look down towards the right. You should see a platform that will lead you to the secret chest.
Secret Chest #7
The seventh secret chest can be found in the same version of Splintered Geode you found secret chest #4 in. The only difference here is that this is the first platforming section after the third boss encounter, and that enemies hit a lot harder. You can find this secret chest by following the path you did for secret chest #4.
Secret Chest #8
The eighth and final secret chest sits in the same version of Fetid Conduit you found secret chest #3 in. However, this is the second platforming section after the third boss. You can find this secret chest by following the path for secret chest #3.
