Bungie teased their Season 23 glaive update in the past few mid-season patches, but we now have all of the details. In a new developer insights blog post, Bungie shared projectile, melee, and shield changes coming to glaives in PVP and PVE. It also previews ways it will tune class-specific Exotic glaives.
The overall projectile base speed goes up by 30%, and the delay when firing the glaive after a melee attack dips to 0.2 seconds from 0.75 seconds. For PVP, Bungie said that the increased base projectile speed improves glaives, but it will nerf the damage dealt to keep the weapon type from becoming overpowered. The blog post detailed that Aggressive frame glaives damage will be set at 123, Adaptives will be at 113, and Rapid-Fire frames go to 101 for PVP, too. Although Impulse Amplifier is a sought-after trait for glaives in PVP, Bungie gave all glaives an Impulse Amplifier-like buff to improve them in PVE. Along with that, the developer increased projectile damage in PVE by 25%.
Bungie added that it wants to boost the shield uptime while preventing it from becoming too powerful in competitive modes. "Made the shield energy now recharge passively when the glaive is held at a rate of 1% per second," the blog post said. With this change, players won't need to rely on projectile attacks to gain shield energy. In Season 23, the base damage resistance stays at 50%, but it will be tiered in PVP. Additionally, damage resistance from primary weapons and melee attacks will be reduced by 30%.
Class-specific Exotic glaives, introduced in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion, grants class ability-like perks. Although these glaives weren't weapons to rave about, Bungie is upgrading all three Exotics in Season 23. Across the board, class glaives will start granting one ammo every time the Exotic perk is activated, it won't deactivate the perk when weapon is stowed, and shield energy won't drain when reloading to activate the perk.
Moreover, the developer insights blog post details changes Bungie is making for the each class Exotic glaive. The Warlock's Edge of Intent glaive's healing turret will have increased area-of-effect to eight meters, and they also cure and give restoration. The magazine size increases to five as well. Bubbles created through the Edge of Action glaive for Titans will have 2400 health instead of 8000 due to the uptime and ability buff. Players who enter the bubble gain bonus reload speed, handling, an overshield, and a small damage boost. Lastly, there's the Hunter Edge of Concurrence glaive. This glaive's Lightning Seeker ability, which sends out a wave of Arc damage, will Jolt targets on impact, but Bungie decreased the direct damage dealt by Lightning Seeker "to account for the free ammo granted."
The Winterbite Exotic glaive introduced in the Destiny 2: Lightfall expansion gets an update, too. Winterbite's Stasis projectile will have 25% more damage when it detonates, while self-damage is reduced.
