Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 6.5 begins the first of a two-part finale of Endwalker, the second half being Patch 6.55, which will launch sometime in mid-January 2024. With its Main Scenario Quests planting the seeds to lead players into the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, Patch 6.5 also brings Endwalker's final Trial and resulting mount – the Lynx of Abyssal Grief.
With the Lynx of Abyssal Grief added to the roster, Warriors of Light can now complete the collection of Endwalker's Trial mounts to obtain an achievement that grants a unique mount of its own. If you're eager to get your hands on the final lynx, you'll need to know the prerequisites and where to find them.
How to unlock the Lynx of Abyssal Grief in FFXIV
Trial mounts are a possible reward after completing the Extreme difficulty Trials of an expansion, though they are not guaranteed to drop. To unlock the Extreme Trial added in Patch 6.5, players must first progress through the post-Endwalker Main Scenario Quests introduced in the patch. The "Down in the Dark" quest will have the Warrior of Light progress through a new dungeon, leading directly into the Trial "The Abyssal Fracture" after some lengthy cutscenes.
After completing the base difficulty version of The Abyssal Fracture, you won't be able to dive directly into its Extreme version just yet. Head to Old Sharlayan and speak to a familiar face, The Wandering Minstrel (X: 12.7, Y: 14.3). The quasi-quest "I Wandered Sharlayan as a Minstrel" unlocks all seven of Endwalker's high-end Trials if you've completed their standard versions. By choosing which Trial you wish to unlock, the quest ends just as quickly as it began and adds the desired Extreme to your Duty Finder – in this case, The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme).
The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) has a low chance of dropping a Lynx of Abyssal Grief Flute in its list of rewards, so while you can get lucky and earn it quickly, you're likely to make several attempts. Extreme Trials ramp up the difficulty from their base versions, adding new mechanics that require proper timing, positioning, and awareness. With The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) having the highest item level of Endwalker's high-end Trials at 640, be prepared for a challenge if you're determined to get the Lynx of Abyssal Grief.
