FFXIV Relic Weapon Guide: Recollection

To the best of my recollection, there were memories involved...

After completing the first step and getting your Augmented Resistance weapon, it is time to unlock your new weapon's potential further by grinding for more memories. This guide will tell you exactly how to upgrade your Resistance Weapon from its Augmented Resistance stage to Recollection, the second upgrade of the Resistance Relic Weapons introduced in Final Fantasy XIV's Shadowbringers expansion.

Check out our main guide for the Resistance Relic Weapons for help with the entire process.

Upgrading Your Relic to Recollection

You can once again get the quest that upgrades your relic in Zlatan in Gangos (X: 6.1, Y: 4.9). As long as you have your Augmented Resistance weapon on hand and are on the job associated with the Relic, he'll give you the quest "The Will to Resist". Remember that you must have this quest active to obtain any Bitter Memories of the Dying

You'll need six Bitter Memories of the Dying and your Augmented Resistance weapon unequipped in either your inventory or your Armory Chest, to turn this quest in. As with all Relics, you'll need a different weapon to hold while Zlatan upgrades your Resistance Weapon. Hand over your items to Zlatan, and he'll make quick work of forging your new Recollection weapon.

How to Get Bitter Memories of the Dying

Upgrading your Augmented Resistance weapon to forge a Recollection Weapon is, thankfully, less of a grind than the previous step was. You only need to farm a single item, the Bitter Memory of the Dying. You'll need to turn in six of these memories to complete this step.

There are a few ways you can go about getting this done, but they all require you to have the quest "The Will to Resist" active.

The first popular but time-gated option is completing your daily Leveling Duty Roulette, which allows you to level a job while you work to earn the required memories. Once a day, you can get a Bitter Memory of the Dying as a reward from the Leveling Roulette, which many people do every day anyway, making this an essentially "free" memory.

Another option is farming memories in Dungeons. Every synced level 60 Dungeon will grant you one Bitter Memory of the Dying, allowing you to queue back-to-back and quickly earn the required six memories. The most popular dungeon to farm is The Antitower due to the speed at which you can complete it compared to the other options.

The Bozjan Southern Front is another method to farm Bitter Memories of the Dying, which drop from Critical Engagements and random mobs, but neither has a high chance of rewarding a memory. Earning the memories this way comes down to luck, making Bozja one of the worst options. However, it is worth considering if you have a low Resistance Rank in Bozja since the next step of the Resistance Weapon requires you to be at least Resistance Rank 10.
