The content drought is almost over for Final Fantasy XIV as Patch 6.55 is on the horizon. While Dawntrail doesn’t have a solid release date, and Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida was tight lipped on a specific release date during Final Fantasy XIV’s Tokyo Fan Fest, the producer and director did let slip on one crucial detail: The release date of FFXIV Patch 6.55.
Patch 6.55 of FFXIV, perhaps the final patch major of the Endwalker expansion, will drop on Tuesday, Jan. 16, just over a week following the end of the Tokyo Fan Fest.

With it, players will meet new NPCs (Including the new female Hrothgar NPC), and get set on the narrative path towards Dawntrail. But we'll also get the next (and final) part of Tataru's Grand Endeavor, the conclusion of the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures, the last upgrade of the Manderville Weapons, and the interconnected Tribal Alliance Quests.
What’s more it’s a big one, with a confirmed 24-hour maintenance. This is because Square Enix is replacing the entire Japanese Data Center infrastructure. Yoshi-P made sure to apologize for this, but assured everyone it was for a good cause: More housing and item storage.
As mentioned, FFXIV's 6.55 patch is expected to be the major patch before the release of Dawntrail, which is expected to release in Summer 2024, so it's the last time to get a fill of new FFXIV content for a while.
