As you build your village in LEGO Fortnite from a humble campfire into a thriving community of blocky people, random adventurers will wander into your camp at night, seeking safety from nocturnal threats. If you have a place for them, then you can invite them to stay permanently and help maintain your Village or even go adventuring with you. While out exploring the world, you can also encounter other NPCs you can invite back to your Village.
As you upgrade your settlement in your Village Square, you'll eventually be able to host up to five Villagers — and up to 15 globally as you establish more Villages. Not all Villagers are made equal, however, so it's important to know who's worth keeping around. To help you, we've rounded up a tier list of all the best Villagers in LEGO Fortnite.
Tier List Explanation
So what makes a good versus bad Villager in LEGO Fortnite? Any Villager can perform any task, but each has one or two passive traits that make them better suited to certain things. Villagers also come in four rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic. Higher rarity Villagers will be faster at assigned tasks, but they're also more challenging to find and recruit. For the purposes of our tier list, we heavily considered the following factors: whether they have one or two traits and how common their traits are within their overall rarity. For instance, of all the Rare characters, five NPCs are good at gathering resources, but only one is good at smelting metal. On the flip side, there are three Epic characters with affinity as a Combat Companion, but only one of them has a secondary specialty.
Also, generally speaking, NPC encounters are largely random. If two potential Villagers are in the same tier with the same passive traits, then the "better" Villager is whoever you meet first. And if you meet Calamity or Rustler before Blackheart, definitely recruit them as your forever combat companion.
S-Tier Villagers
All of these Villagers are either Epic or Rare, so they'll be hard to recruit but worth it. Crystal should be in her own tier since she gets three passive traits. All of these Villagers have two traits each, and while the Epics are superior, you have enough potential Villager slots that you should try and recruit everyone on this tier. If you meet Meowscles or Raptor early enough, recruit them as your combat companion and keep them in that slot until you meet an Epic alternative.

A-Tier Villagers
Tomatohead, Calamity, and Rustler are the only Epic characters with a single passive trait each, so they slip down to A-Tier for that reason alone. Tomatohead is every bit the top-tier cook as Polar Peely or Crystal, however, so if you do meet and recruit him, feel free to keep him as your endgame chef. Similarly, Calamity and Rustler are two of the best combat companions in the game.
We put Sunflower here even though she's Common because a specialty in farming and fertilizing is pretty rare. If you can recruit her early on, she'll put in many hours of solid work. At the Uncommon rarity, resource gathering is rare, giving Petra the boost to get into A-Tier. You could consider putting Peely in S-Tier, but Gem Collection is pretty standard on Rare NPCs, and there are several Epic rarity cooks to consider. There are only a few Rare NPCs with combat affinity, and Nugget is one of them.
Villager Name | Passive Trait | Location | Rarity |
---|---|---|---|
Tomatohead | Cooking | Grasslands Dry Valley | Epic |
Calamity | Combat Companion | Dry Valley | Epic |
Rustler | Combat Companion | Dry Valley | Epic |
Peely | Cooking Gem Collection | Any Biome | Rare |
Flint | Textile Production | Dry Valley | Rare |
Bushranger | Resource Gathering Gem Collection | Grasslands Frostland | Rare |
Sunflower | Farming Fertilizer Gathering | Grasslands | Common |
Petra | Resource Gathering Gem Collection | Dry Valley | Uncommon |
Nugget | Combat Companion | Dry Valley | Rare |

B-Tier Villagers
There aren't a lot of NPCs with proficiency in smelting or farming, so Hayseed and Skye get a bump up into B-Tier despite being Common. Yeti is one of only two Uncommon gatherers, so they're a strong Villager to look for in the early- to mid-game.
Villager Name | Passive Trait | Location | Rarity |
---|---|---|---|
Hayseed | Farming | Grasslands | Common |
Otis | Cooking | Grasslands | Common |
Skye | Gem Collection Metal Smelting | Any Biome | Common |
Yeti | Resource Gathering | Frostland | Uncommon |
Tabby | Gem Collection | Any Biome | Rare |
Beef Boss | Cooking | Any Biome | Rare |
Rex | Resource Gathering | Dry Valley | Rare |
Silas | Resource Gathering | Any Biome | Rare |
C-Tier Villagers
In all likelihood, Blue Squire or Robin will show up in your village on one of your very first nights in the game, and they should be your starting combat companions. Similarly, Fishtick or Salty should be your first cook, depending on which other biome you explore first. As always, once you uncover a higher-rarity NPC with the same passives, use them to replace your current go-to.
Villager Name | Passive Trait | Location | Rarity |
---|---|---|---|
Blue Squire | Combat Companion | Grasslands | Common |
Robin | Combat Companion | Grasslands | Common |
Lionbrand | Combat Companion | Any Biome | Uncommon |
Fishstick | Cooking | Any Biome | Uncommon |
Gus | Combat Companion | Dry Valley | Uncommon |
Sally Sails | Combat Companion | Shore | Uncommon |
Salty | Cooking | Shore | Uncommon |
Sawyer | Combat Companion | Dry Valley | Uncommon |

D-Tier Villagers
The vast majority of the Common NPCs are only good at gathering resources. Sure, that's helpful as a foundation, but they're outclassed very quickly as you recruit more Villagers.
