After tons of delays, Cyberpunk 2077’s dystopian world has finally arrived. In this RPG, players assume the role of V as they make their way through the neon-drenched streets of Night City. Boasting a massive open-world, unique character customization options, and a whole range of ways to approach scenarios, almost every playthrough will be different. Unsurprisingly, Night City is absolutely massive, which can make getting around it a bit tricky. While there is a fast travel system, your most consistent method will be via a car, truck, or motorcycle. From the start you will have access to V’s car, however, this will change once you pass the title screen and complete the prologue. This will leave many stranded, but thankfully, you can get an early vehicle to ease your pain.
(Author’s Note: Do not keep reading if you haven’t completed the prologue. We will be spoiling a major early plot point since it’s tied to the guide.)
How to Get a Vehicle After the Prologue
Once you finish the prologue and eventually regain control of V in his apartment, you’ll be informed that his car is in the nearby parking garage. However, when you get into your car the A.I. driver Delamain will crash into your car, disabling it, before driving off. This will give you the quest “Tune Up,” where you have to visit Delamain’s headquarters in downtown Night City. On paper, this sounds like the best way to get your vehicle back, but you actually will only get a few thousand eddies as compensation. Your car will then be taken to a garage for repairs, which takes a fair amount of time given the amount of damage done to it.
Instead, when you leave the apartment and get a message from Jackie’s mother asking you to attend his funeral service. Call her up when you get the message and then use the fast travel kiosk to make your way to the bar she owns. You will then go through a fairly long story mission where you explore Jackie’s locker, talk to people close to him, and even share a few inspiring words about this lovable gangster. After you give your eulogy and leave a gift to honor Jackie, speak to Mama Wells in the corner.

Go through the dialogue tree until she offers you the key to Jackie’s bike. You can turn this gift down, but since you won’t have a car for some time it’s better to just take it. This will instantly add Jackie’s bike to your inventory, allowing you to summon it at any time when you’re exploring Night City. Congratulations, you now have a way to get around town without having to rely on just walking or fast traveling. If you want a different car, you can always purchase new ones when various Night City contracts reach out to you. However, these cost thousands of credits so don’t expect to purchase a vehicle any time soon.
For those of you who haven’t kept up with everything, there’s been quite a trail left by the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this week it came out that certain sequences in the game were using braindance segments which are well known to cause epileptic seizures. We’ve also covered how the developer was overworking its employees rather than delaying the game, inevitably, both ended up happening anyway. We also have a fantastic look at the appropriation of Asian culture in the title. And hell, if you just want more cyberpunk style games in your life, we have that too.
