In Palworld, it’s not just about getting out hunting Pals and defeating enemies; there are bases for you to maintain and support. Each Base you have will allow you to set a number of Pals to work there.
But not all Pals are created equal. Some are natural workers who’ll be the perfect choice to be left at Base. Others don’t have much more utility but are great at battling. Luckily, you don’t have to use trial and error to find out the best Pals for Base work. Here’s a guide to the Best Pals for use in your Base in Palworld.
What Makes a Good Pal for Your Base in Palworld?

As mentioned, not all Pals are equally good when it comes to working in your Base. Palworld’s compendium of creatures effectively means that a lot of the lower-level Pals you catch will be less useful in battle later but will be more useful in your Base working hard. Pals that are good for your Base will need a mix of Work Suitabilities and be able to essentially automate your production. For instance, a Pal that has the Carrying, Watering, and Planting Work Suitability will basically be able to farm for you, making the entire process automatic.
Additionally, Pals have traits that will make them better or worse at being workers. Some positive traits will make Pals work harder, boost their productivity in your Base, require less food, or cause them to lose less SAN while working. Other, more negative traits will make it so Pals will slack off more, be less productive, and not work as hard. As a result, the best pals need both good Work Suitability and good traits to be effective.
Best Base Pals in Palworld
Pengullet

A low-level and very common Pal, Pengullet is one of the best early-game Pals to use in your Base. This is because of the Carrying Work Suitability and the fact they can water your plantations. They can also build and work at crafting tables, meaning you’re going to get a lot of mileage out of this little Pal.
Penking

The bigger (apparently unrelated) cousin of Pengullet, Penking has a lot of the advantages of Pengullet with just a little bit extra utility thanks to the mining job preference. The issue is that you’ll likely need to hatch the Penking from an egg or find one in the more high-level areas. Despite the difficulty in obtaining it, once you have a Penking, you’ll be set with a lot of jobs.
Cattiva

One of the earliest pals you’ll get with the Mining Work Suitability, Cattiva will be great for your Base until higher-level Mining Pals become available. Again, this Pal can also carry and craft, so you’re getting a lot of versatility out of this small cat. The only criticism is that Cattiva seem to have a higher chance of having negative traits, so watch out for Lazy or otherwise deficient Cattivas.
Lifmunk

Lifmunk might be the MVP (Most Valuable Pal, of course) of Palworld. Great at low-level combat, a great Pal ability, with an easily crafted Pal tool, and great for Base. Thanks to the Planting, Gathering, and Lumbering Work Suitability, though, Lifmunk is one of the most essential in-base Pals.
Bristla

Bristla is a great choice for a Base Pal because of the wide variety of Work Suitability and ease of catching. Again, versatility is the key here, a great pal at Planting, Handiwork (crafting and building) and Transporting, you’ll be able to use this plant princess for a lot of in-base projects.
Lamball

Lamball is one of the first Pals you’ll get, and while their initial utility can seem limited, the fact they have Handiwork and Carrying means this Pal is perfect when you’re first setting up a base. We recommend using them during the initial building and then retiring them on a Ranch when initial construction is done.
Tanzee

The cute green Monkey is a great Pal for your Base due to a great mix of Pal Work Suitability. Planting, Lumbering, and Gathering, combined with the essentials like Transporting and Handiwork, make Tanzee a no-brainer.
Robinquill

A rare mix of both great battler and good base Pal, Robinquill is a great chocie because he has almost all the skills you need for setting up and maintaining a base. Because of the wide variety of Work Suitability that this Pal has, and higher level, they're actually great for setting up a second or third Base as you expand and level up. If you're setting up a team for a new Base build, always bring a Robinquill.
