Disclaimers About This Tier List

This Tier List ranks Pals on their base type, power, ease of catching, and general abilities. Keep in mind that Pals have different passive and active skills, so a lower-tier Pal with great passive or active skills might outperform a higher-tier Pal without them. This list also only considers Ice Pals to be those with the Ice Element as their primary element - some Pals, such as those with Water-Ice typing, will be considered on their own primary element list so as not to overlap.

Best Ice Pals in Palworld - Tier List

Found in the frigid reaches of Palworld, Ice Pals certainly have a frosty disposition. These Pals could be your best friend, but you'll have to thaw them out a bit first - or, in at least one case, thaw them out a whole lot before they'll let you capture them.

How We Ranked the Best Ice Pals

When coming up with our rankings for the best Ice Pals, we looked at several different categories: power, Partner Skills, Active Skill pools, how easy it is to obtain them, and general overall usefulness. Here's what our Tiers mean at a glance:

  • S-Tier: The best of the best, Pals in this category are the best in almost every situation.
  • A-Tier: Great in all situations, these Pals are well-rounded and will be more than adequate for most players.
  • B-Tier: Average to Good in a wide variety of situations, these Pals are solidly useful, but may be outpaced by higher tier Pals.
  • C-Tier: These Pals are not generally recommended, however they still can find situational usefulness.
  • D-Tier: The worst Ice Pals - unless you have no other options, not recommended for long-term use.

S-Tier Ice Pals: The Best Ice Pals

The absolute best of the best - this Ice Pal would make for the perfect addition to any team, and would find itself right at home amongst other Legendary companions.

Frostallion is by far the best Ice Pal in Palworld. While Ice Pals in general don't have the strongest movesets - their best skill only goes up to 130 Power - Frostallion still brings the hurt with Crystal Wing, its exclusive ability. Anyone who faced it in combat knows - it's no slouch! Power isn't the only thing Frostallion has going for it, though. As the only pal with Cooling Suitability Rank 4, it also claims the title of "Best Pal to Keep Food Fresh" back at base. To add the cherry on top, Frostallion can fly - and you can ride it. Its Partner Skill is also great; there's really nothing Frostallion can't do!

A-Tier Ice Pals

While not quite S-Tier, our A-Tier picks are versatile, powerful Pals that make for a great addition to any team.

Just shy of S-Tier, Wumpo is our A-Tier Pal of choice. This Pal has a lot going on: it has great power with both Ice and Grass type moves at the highest Power you can get, it can be ridden as a mount, it ties for best Transporting Work Suitability among all Pals, and it has a very interesting Partner Skill - it raises your overall carrying capacity! If Frostallion is out of your reach, Wumpo is a fantastic Pal for your team - a Wumpo will carry you (quite literally!) into the Endgame.

B-Tier Ice Pals

B-Tier Pals are solid middle-of-the-pack choices - each with something a little special to make them stand out.

Due to the nature of Ice Pals' movesets, many simply fall flat in terms of endgame power, leaving them out of reach of A or S-Tiers. Without a guaranteed 150 Power move, B-Tier is the highest many Ice Pals can achieve, and that's if they're well-rounded in other areas.

Ice Pals such as Chillet, Reindrix, Ice Reptyro, and Vanwyrm Cryst fall firmly into the middle of the pack B-Tier. While all these Pals can be ridden as part of their Parnter skills, each brings something slightly different to the table. Ice Reptyro, for instance, has a decent native moveset with access to the 150 Power Ground move Rock Lance, as well as strong Work Suitability, but its mounted Partner Skill is next to useless because players won't be riding around looking for ore - you'll set up a mining base instead. Vanwyrm Cryst likewise has a decent moveset due to its dual-element typing, however its strength lies in the fact that it is a flying mount - its Partner Skill and Work Suitability leave something to be desired.

Chillet and Reindrix round out our B-Tier, with each being fully average in all ways - nothing truly stands out about either, although their Partner skills can arguably find use in specific setups or in early to midgame.

C-Tier Ice Pals

Our C-Tier Pals suffer from the niche use curse - while in specific situations they're great, those situations just don't happen very often.

Sadly, the majority of Ice element Pals have very niche uses due to their Partner Skills. Sweepa, for example, can increase its stats - but only if it has a team full of Swee to support it. Likewise, Hangyu Cryst and Mammorest Cryst can both be used as a Glider and a Mount respectively, but don't have much else going for them. Sibelyx has an incredibly specialized Partner Skill that can produce a lot of wool, but wool isn't very hard to get in the first place. Cryolinx likewise can have a solid place in a base, using its Lumbering and Cooling Work Suitability. Another mountable Pal, Ice Kingpaca has slightly higher Power than most other Pals on this list, but aside from increasing carrying capacity while mounted, it can't really do much. Finally, Foxcicle shines when its placed in a team full of Ice Pals, but that realistically won't be a team you'll ever set up - unless you really, really love Ice Pals.

We wish these Pals had more versatile uses - unfortunately, outside of their specific niches, these aren't the Pals for a hard-hitting team.

D-Tier Ice Pals: The Worst Ice Pals

Unfortunately, there always has to be a Pal that wins the title of Worst Ice Pal - and Ice Pals have three D-Tier entries.

Swee is only truly useful while in a very specific combination with Sweepa and other Swee. Its power isn't great, and its Work Suitability is nothing to write home about - so unless you're going for a full sweep-a meme team, there is essentially no use for this Pal besides a Paldeck entry.

Similarly, Mau Cryst has one of the absolute worst Partner Skills in the game. Leaving it in your base will allow it to occasionally dig up a gold coin, but selling literally anything to a Merchant will generate more gold than this. Being cute is the strength of this Pal, and nothing more.

Finally, the icy hand grenade that calls itself Jolthog Cryst also inhabits the D-Tier for Ice Pals. Outside of very early levels, this explosive icy Pal can't really do too much - and should be upgraded to another Ice Pal as soon as one is caught.

These Pals just couldn't quite cut it - and we recommend bringing any other Pals on this list along on your adventures before these two.
