Disclaimers About This Tier List

This Tier List ranks Pals off their base type, power, ease of catching, and general abilities. Keep in mind that Pals have different passive and active skills, so a lower-tier Pal with great passive or active skills might outperform a higher-tier Pal without them. This list also only considers Dragon Pals to be those with the Dragon Element as their primary element - some Pals, such as those with Ice-Dragon typing, will be considered on their own primary element list so as not to overlap.

Best Dragon Pals in Palworld - Tier List

Dragon Pals are some of the strongest in Palworld - with access to powerful movesets, strong Partner Skills, and great utility, it's hard to pick which ones are the best, even within such a small elemental family. These fantastic creatures have their own degrees of usefulness though - and there's only one that can truly take home the S-Tier Crown.

How We Ranked the Best Dragon Pals

When coming up with our rankings for the best Dragon Pals, we looked at several different categories: power, Partner Skills, Active Skill pools, how easy it is to obtain them, and general overall usefulness. Here's what our Tiers mean at a glance:

  • S-Tier: The best of the best, Pals in this category are the best in almost every situation.
  • A-Tier: Great in all situations, these Pals are well-rounded and will be more than adequate for most players.
  • B-Tier: Average to Good in a wide variety of situations, these Pals are solidly useful, but may be outpaced by higher tier Pals.
  • C-Tier: These Pals are not generally recommended; however they still can find situational usefulness.
  • D-Tier: The worst Dragon Pals - unless you have no other options, not recommended for long-term use.

S-Tier Dragon Pals: The Best Dragon Pals

The absolute best of the best - this Dragon Pal would make for the perfect addition to any team and is one of the overall best Pals in the game - even if it's arguably the hardest to catch.

Jetragon is an insane powerhouse among Pals. With access to not only two of the most powerful Fire and Dragon skills, Fire Ball and Dragon Meteor, Jetragon also has an exclusive ability - the devastating Beam Comet. With a fairly high-level Gathering Suitability, Jetragon is useful both in the field and at home - but it truly shines as your primary party member. Jetragon isn't just incredibly strong - it's also the fastest Flying Mount Pal in the game, and as if that wasn't enough, it allows you to shoot a barrage of missiles from its back as you ride as well!

A-Tier Dragon Pals

While not-quite S-Tier, our A-Tier picks are versatile, powerful Pals that make for a great addition to any team.

With so many powerhouses to choose from in the Dragon element family, A-Tier Pals really had to stand out somehow - so Jormuntide Ignis really fit the bill. Between the highest rank of the Kindling Suitability and access to the most powerful Dragon and Fire moves, Dragon Meteor and Fire Ball, Jormuntide Ignis is a powerful Pal on and off the field. While its counterpart may have been dinged a few points for being a water-only Mount, Jormuntide Ignis doesn't have that downside - meaning more versatility clinched the A-Tier spot.

B-Tier Dragon Pals

B-Tier Pals are solid middle of the pack choices - each with something a little special to make them stand out.

Jormuntide, while a very powerful Dragon, was knocked out of A-Tier due to its Mount restrictions. Being a water-only Mount really hurt its ability to shine, especially when the competition is so stiff. Make no mistake though - in terms of raw power, Jormuntide can go toe to toe with Jormuntide Ignis any day.

Our other residents of the B-Tier, Astegon, Elphidran Aqua, and Quivern are each great Pals, but tend to have one or two aspects that keep them just shy of A-Tier. Astegon, while an absolute powerhouse, has a very situational Partner Skill, while Elphidran Aqua's Partner Skill is borderline useless past mid-game, but its power and flying ability carry it into midrange scores. Quivern, the final Pal in this tier, is by far the weakest of the B-Tier choices but has a fantastic Partner Ability which increases Dragon attacks while mounted - which can definitely come in handy for aerial fights.

C-Tier Dragon Pals

Our C-Tier Pals suffer from the niche use curse - while in specific situations they're great, those situations just don't happen very often.

Orserk is absolutely amazing for work at a base - with both Transporting and Generating Electricity at Rank 4 for Suitability, it's hard to overstate how useful it can be, especially from mid-game on. However, given that it's such a late-acquired Pal, it's moveset isn't the most powerful, and its Partner Skill is fairly terrible, it's likely safer to use Orserk as a battery pack instead of a battering ram.

Meanwhile, Elphidran has some powerful moves, but a super niche Partner Skill - and given that one of its skills is Neutral, which hits no Pal at a weakness, it can't even be considered among the more powerful Pals that can attack elemental weaknesses. While being a Flying Mount is nice, it's unfortunately not enough to save this Pal from a C-Tier ranking.

We wish these two had more versatile uses - unfortunately, outside of their specific niches, these aren't the Pals for a hard-hitting team.

D-Tier Dragon Pals: The Worst Dragon Pals

Unfortunately, there always has to be a Pal that wins the title of Worst Dragon Pal - but in this case, there's two. Out of all the Pals on this list, these two are not only the weakest, but also are outstripped in terms of utility and Partner Skills.

Relaxaurus and Relaxaurus Lux are the worst Dragon Pals in Palworld. With borderline pitiful work suitability, Partner Skills that can't compete with the stronger Dragons on this list, and some of the weaker ability options in their natural movesets, these Pals just can't stand up with their mythical counterparts. The good news is, these Pals can be found fairly early in the game - but even then, you'll quickly replace them with far better Pals for your needs.
