After tons of delays, Cyberpunk 2077’s dystopian world has finally arrived. In this RPG, players assume the role of V as they make their way through the neon-drenched streets of Night City. Boasting a massive open-world, unique character customization options, and a whole range of ways to approach scenarios, almost every playthrough will be different. Similar to CD Projekt Red’s previous series, users will need to contend with different dialogue choices as they speak to the many colorful characters of Cyberpunk 2077. However, players can actually unlock new dialogue options based on their Attribute’s level and lifepath.
Here’s what each of these dialogue symbols mean and why they’re important:
Dialogue Symbols
There are five possible symbols that will appear when you are talking to people in Cyberpunk 2077. When talking to someone, you will occasionally get a symbol that appears next to a string of dialogue along with a number. That number designates what level your attribute has to be for this dialogue option to work. For example, if I am speaking to someone and the wrench icon appears with a 7 next to it, this means I will need to have my Technical Ability at Level 7 to select that line of dialogue. If your attribute isn’t properly leveled then the option will be grayed out, making it impossible to select this line. Below is what each of the five symbols mean, along with a picture of them you can use for reference:
- Yin/Yang – Cool
- Wrench – Technical Ability
- Aperture – Reflexes
- Fist – Body
- Five vertical lines – Intelligence
To level up your Attributes, you will need to gain experience to increase V’s overall level. Doing so will award you with a single Attribute Point which can be spent on any of the five Attributes. This is the only way to gain Attribute Points, so make sure to spend them carefully. You’ll want to focus more on a build rather than simply unlocking dialogue options. Those will come regardless, you just won’t have access to all of them right away. If you do want to talk your way out of conflicts, Cool appears to be the most frequent attribute used during dialogue exchanges.

Additionally, V will be able to use his chosen lifepath to select specific dialogue lines with characters. These options are Nomad, Street Kid, and Corpo. You cannot change this outside of starting a completely new character and only your chosen lifepath will appear if there’s a dialogue choice. So far, these options can impact how dialogue unfolds and even how you complete missions.
For those of you who haven’t kept up with everything, there’s been quite a trail left by the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this week it came out that certain sequences in the game were using braindance segments which are well known to cause epileptic seizures. We’ve also covered how the developer was overworking its employees rather than delaying the game, inevitably, both ended up happening anyway. We also have a fantastic look at the appropriation of Asian culture in the title. And hell, if you just want more cyberpunk style games in your life, we have that too.
