The newly released Stardew Valley 1.6 Update is one of the biggest in quite a while, and one of the more interesting new mechanics introduced as part of it is Trinkets. This new equipment slot focuses almost exclusively on combat, with many outright summoning a magic companion to aid you in battle. Here's a look at how Trinkets work in Stardew Valley.
How to Unlock Trinkets in Stardew Valley
The 1.6 Update also introduced the Mastery System, and the only to access Trinkets is to unlock Combat Mastery.
To do that, locate the door on a rock wall in the Cindersnap Forest behind a tree with a note. "Only a master of the five ways may enter," the note reads. To get there, head south out of your farm and follow the path to the river. Walk across the narrow bridge to the tiny island and continue south to the small area just east of the waterfalls. Follow the eastern cliff wall until you find the door.
To get inside the Mastery Cave, you'll have to max out your five core skills of Farming, Foraging, Fishing, Mining, and Combat by reaching Level 10 in each (which can take several in-game years). This unlocks the door. Inside are five Mastery Totems you can purchase with Mastery Points. To earn those, continue earning EXP in your maxed-out skills. Your first Totem unlock costs 10,000 Mastery Points, and each successive unlock costs even more, so you'd do well to unlock Combat first if you want to explore Trinkets ASAP.
Combat Mastery unlocks the following:

- Anvil recipe
- Mini-Forge recipe
- The Trinkets equipment slot
The Anvil allows you to reforge Trinkets, randomizing their stats for the cost of 3 Iridium Bars. It costs 50 Iron Bars to craft. The Mini-Forge allows you all the functions of a full Forge: upgrade weapons, enchant weapons and tools, combine rings, and change weapon appearances.
How to Get Trinkets in Stardew Valley
The only way to get new Trinkets is to use your Combat Mastery by defeating monsters in places like the Mine, Desert Cave, Volcano, or Skull Caverns. In any location where you fight monsters, they might drop a random Trinket.
Stardew Valley Trinkets List
Item Name | Description |
Basilisk Paw | You are immune to debuffs. |
Fairy Box | Summons a level X fairy companion that heals you in combat situations. |
Frog Egg | Summons a hungry frog companion. |
Golden Spur | Critical strikes give you a speed boost for X seconds. |
Ice Rod | Shoots an orb of ice every X seconds, freezing any enemies in its path for Y seconds. |
Magic Hair Gels | Your hair shimmers with all the colors of prismatic shards. |
Magic Quiver | Shoot a magic arrow at nearby enemies every X seconds, dealing Y-Z damage. |
Parrot Egg | Summons a level X parrot companion, who grants you a Y chance to find gold coins when slaying monsters. |
When you see a variable (X, Y, or Z) in the Trinket Description, you can reroll the Trinket with the Anvil to randomize those values. Some players are reporting that the Fairy Box can drop at Level 5. The Magic Quiver can also reroll as a Heavy Magic Quiver, dealing 32-37 damage or even more per arrow.
Pro tip: some players report that ring effects influence Magic Quiver, boosting attack damage, for instance. Napalm Ring effects also stack, meaning that defeated enemies explode. Keep that in mind when making your decisions about which Trinket to equip.
