FFXIV The Path Infernal Guide and Rewards

Experience Valisthea, no PS5 required!

After a nearly year-long wait, the Final Fantasy XVI collaboration event is finally making it's way to Final Fantasy XIV, giving players the opportunity to fight Valisthea's Eikon of fire, Ifrit. Players participating in the event will be able to earn exclusive FFXVI themed rewards, including Clive's armor, Torgal as both a mount and minion, a Clive Rosfield Triple Triad card, and a plethora of Orchestrion Rolls featuring music from the FFXVI soundtrack.

FFXIV players that haven't had the chance to play FFXVI yet need not worry, as producer Naoki Yoshida assured fans that the event will only cover the early sections of FFXVI without any spoilers. The event runs from April 2 until May 8, so players will have plenty of time to grab all the items they're after.

How to start The Path Infernal Quest

The event begins with the quest "A Land on Fire" located in Ul'dah - The Steps of Nald (X:8.8, Y:9.8), however, players will need to meet a couple of requirements in order to participate. Characters must be at least level 50 and have completed The Ultimate Weapon to start the event.

While the event requirements are easily met by most FFXIV players, newcomers will have a bit of a grind to complete before they'll be able to join in. Those looking to expedite the process can gain a significant experience bonus for creating a character on a new or preferred server, and following these tips on leveling quickly. Alternatively, players looking to skip the grind altogether can purchase level and story skips via the Mog Station online store.

The Path Infernal Walkthrough

The event’s quest chain is a standard ordeal, having you speak with NPCs and escort them to various locations, culminating in a confrontation with Ifrit alongside Clive. The duty is a special battle featuring two duty actions inspired by the combat of FFXVI, Rising Flames and Dodge.

Rising Flames is a gap closing ability that deals high damage, while Dodge allows you to evade Ifrit’s attacks even if you’re caught within a telegraph. If an attack is successfully dodged, the Dodge duty action changes to Precision Strike, another gap closing ability that deals damage like Rising Flames.

Certain attacks will display a countdown and timer, indicating a dodgeable attack is incoming and showing you the window of opportunity to use the Dodge duty action. While these indicators are sure to be helpful, the Dodge action is able to avoid damage from attacks that don’t display these prompts too, allowing keen players to find unmarked opportunities to dodge attacks and increase their damage with additional Precision Strikes.

Defeating Ifrit and completing the event’s quest chain will reward players with a set of Clive’s armor for glamouring, as well as a Torgal mount and minion. Additionally, orchestrion rolls featuring songs from FFXVI’s soundtrack, as well as a Triple Triad card featuring Clive are unlocked for purchase in the Gold Saucer. The orchestrion rolls can be purchased from the Prize Claim Gold Saucer Attendant (X:5.1, Y:6.7) under the Prize Exchange IV category for 20,000 MGP each, requiring 200,000 MGP to purchase all ten rolls. The Triple Triad card is purchased from the Triple Triad Trader (X:5.0, Y:6.4) on the other side of the counter for 200,000 MGP.

Players looking to obtain everything the event has to offer will need to amass a total of 400,000 MGP. Those looking to grind out the required currency can find a list of some of the best ways to farm MGP in our dedicated guide

One key difference from other events containing rewards purchased from the Gold Saucer is that the items were added to permanent vendors. Previous events added temporary, event-specific vendors to sell rewards, such as the Campaign Attendant for the Make It Rain Campaign events or the Ironworks Vendor for the Nocturne for Heroes Final Fantasy XV collaboration event, suggesting that players may be able to purchase the FFXVI event items even after the event’s end on May 8.
