UPDATE (8/23/2022): The scheduled FFXIV maintenance period concluded early at 2:20 a.m. PT / 5:20 a.m. ET. Patch 6.2 is now live. Check out our summary of everything you need to know about Patch 6.2 and catch up on all the FFXIV 6.2 Job changes before jumping in. The original story published on August 22, 2022 follows.
Every major patch for Final Fantasy XIV requires a maintenance period, meaning the game has to go offline for several hours to get updated. With Patch 6.2 releasing on August 23, this downtime begins the day before, which is, well, today. As the in-game message and The Lodestone state, FFXIV will be offline for Patch 6.2 maintenance starting on August 22 at 7:00 p.m. PT / 10:00 p.m. ET and is expected to finish on August 23 at 3:00 a.m. PT / 6:00 a.m. ET. (Note that the world visit and data center travel systems will be disabled 30 minutes before maintenance starts.)
Surely you can survive this eight-hour period, but if you’re looking to fill in that time before Patch 6.2 goes live, there’s plenty FFXIV-related stuff you can check out. We expect director and producer Naoki Yoshida and community manager Toshio Murouchi to be live on the official FFXIV Twitch and YouTube channels during the maintenance period for a read-through of the complete FFXIV 6.2 patch notes. (The presentation will be in Japanese only.)
We have our own full summary of the FFXIV 6.2 patch notes where we breakdown and highlight all the new content coming to the game. We have all the information on new quests, unlocks, raids, trials, gear, glam, PVP updates, gameplay changes and so much more. It includes a deep-dive on Island Sanctuary to get you prepared for chill vibes of building and cultivating your own instanced island. There’s also some new mounts, minions and emotes to earn. And you can preview all of the new armor pieces coming to Patch 6.2 with our gear roundup.
If you’re reading this and still have time before FFXIV maintenance starts, be sure you’re caught up on the Pandaemonium raid series so you can start raiding Abyssos when it debuts in Patch 6.2. You’ll also want to make sure you’re geared up for the new content with the upcoming dungeon and trials requiring higher average Item Levels for players. And take note of the changes coming to endgame currency — Tomestones of Asphorism are being phased out with the introduction of Tomestones of Causality.
Anticipation is high since FFXIV Patch 6.2 is full of exciting new content, especially with the main story continuing. You can watch the Patch 6.2 trailer, read about the FFXIV community’s speculation about the new character revealed, or get some insight on the continued Final Fantasy IV references in FFXIV.
