Moogle Treasure Trove Event Brings Mameshiba Earrings and More to FFXIV

Kupo.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn players have a new opportunity to earn some dope mounts and cute earrings next week, when the Moogle Treasure Trove event returns on Monday, Sept. 30 at 1 a.m. Pacific time. Two new items, “Mameshiba Earring” and “Magicked Prism (Job Mastery),” are exclusive to the event, which runs “until the launch of Patch 5.1,” whenever that might be.

The actual machinations of the event should be pretty familiar to anyone that’s been around an MMO’s block once for twice. By completing eligible objectives from the Duty Finder (aka “the ones marked by a cute li’l moogle icon”), players earn “Irregular Tomestones of Mythology,” which are then delivered to “Itinerant Moogle” NPCs located in New Gridania, Ul’dah, Steps of Nald, and the lower decks of the Limsa Lominsa.

For your trouble, you’ll be able to acquire a wide variety of items, including Triple Triad cards, mount whistles/horns, Riding Maps, Orchestration Rolls, and the pièce de résistance, the Mameshiba Earring. Those earrings are the most expensive item of the bunch and will set you back 100 Irregular Tomestones of Mythology, but most of the items available during Moogle Treasure Trove go for about 30 Irregular Tomestones of Mythology. There’s way too many to list here, but you can check out the full list of event items on the game’s official website.

Two dungeons, The Praetorium and Castrum Meridianum, award the most Irregular Tomestones of Mythology at 10 and seven a pop, respectively. Achieving victory in The Borderland Ruins, Seal Rock, The Fields of Glory, or Hidden Gorge will net you five Irregular Tomestones of Mythology per, whereas three are granted upon completion of The Labyrinth of the Ancients, Syrcus Tower, The World of Darkness, The Tam-Tara Deepcroft, Copperbell Mines, The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak, The Sunken Temple of Qarn, and The Stone Vigil.

Square Enix has yet to announce when Patch 5.1 — dubbed Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty — will arrive, but we do have a good idea of what to expect when it does. Beyond the end of Moogle Treasure Trove, 5.1 will add new quests to FFXIV‘s main story scenario, as well a new 24-player alliance raid called “The Copied Factory,” which is the first chapter of the highly anticipated “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse” Nier: Automata crossover event.

Patch 5.1 will also introduce a “New Game+” option, which sounds more wild than it actually is. Instead of starting the entire game over with your existing gear, as would be the case in a traditional New Game+ mode, it looks like FFXIV‘s NG+ will allow players to revisit completed quests of their choosing in an à la carte fashion. There’s also a new dungeon, “The Grand Cosmos,” as well as a new extreme-level trial and unspecified PvP changes. Square also promises a “major update” to the Blue Mage job, including an increased level cap, new quests, and more challenges/content exclusive to the job.

But none of that matters yet. All that matters right now are those cute little pup-a-doo earrings, and the question of how dedicated you are to acquiring them. If the answer is anything less than “A+++ earrings 100 percent dedicated would die for,” maybe take a look in the mirror tonight.
