Introduced in the Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion, the Blind Well is a horde-mode activity in the Dreaming City that hasn’t been relevant since Season of the Lost in August 2021. That is, until Season of the Wish thrust it back into the spotlight Tuesday as a vital part of the seasonal questline, Wishing All the Best. The process involves recovering the Ahamkara Riven’s eggs as they orbit around reality in the Ascendant Realm.
As a dimensional rift generator, the Blind Well is capable of manipulating the Ley Lines of the Ascendant Realm and remains one of Queen Mara Sov’s greatest tools. Players once used it to track down the missing Techeun witches, so it’s also helpful catching wish dragon eggs as they hurl across the multiverse.
Players have to do several runs of the Blind Well for an early quest step and will have to do so again in Week 6. If you only started playing Destiny 2 four years ago and/or if you missed Season of the Lost entirely, the Blind Well might be a totally new and utterly confusing experience. In fact, Bungie’s team instantly received feedback about the Blind Well being a “sore spot” for players, along with other criticisms.
Here’s a breakdown of how the Blind Well works.
How to Start the Blind Well
The Blind Well is a horde-mode activity in which up to six players defend against waves of enemies in an arena, culminating in one or more boss fights. The Blind Well is powered by paracausal energies after you insert a Charge of Light into it, of which there are three tiers and one “Unstable” variant.
All four of these can be purchased from the Dreaming City vendor Petra Venj for various Glimmer prices, but you can also get them as random rewards in Dreaming City chests, public events, and other activities, including the Blind Well itself.
- Charge of Light - Tier I (2,500 Glimmer)
- Charge of Light - Tier II (5,000 Glimmer)
- Charge of Light - Tier III (7,500 Glimmer)
- Unstable Charge of Light (10,000 Glimmer)
Because of the curse on the Dreaming City, Petra’s location changes each week, so be sure to check your map to track her down.
How to Complete the Blind Well
Whichever Charge of Light tier you or a teammate places into the Well will start the activity, and the Tier determines how many Herald of the Plague bosses will spawn in the fifth round. In the first round, a protective bubble surrounds the Well as you defend it from waves of enemies that emerge from the dark mists surrounding the area. That bubble grants the Touch of Sky buff that expires a few seconds after you leave its safety, which triggers a debuff called Touch of the Deep that gradually chips away at your health.
At the end of each round, the Well will “thrum” with energy, and then the bubble moves to somewhere else in the arena. Always follow that bubble! The later rounds also feature invulnerable major enemies called Servants of the Plague. They can only be damaged if you pick up the orb dropped by glowing enemies called The Anathema and gain the Harmony buff.
The boss-tier Heralds of the Plague spawn in the fifth round corresponding to the Tier of difficulty (Tier III is three Heralds, etc.) as the damaging mists lift. Like the Servants of the Plague, the Heralds can only be damaged if you pick up the Harmony orb dropped by The Anathema. Because you’re dealing with multiple bosses at once, do your best to coordinate and focus on them one at a time.
When the first fireteam completed the Last Wish raid back in 2018, it unlocked Heroic Blind Wells. That’s where Unstable Charges of Light come in. Right after wrapping up round five and slaying the Herald(s) of the Plague, any member of the fireteam can insert an Unstable Charge of Light into the Blind Well to trigger a Heroic boss encounter with unique mechanics.
How to Defeat the Heroic Blind Well Bosses
Each of the Heroic-tier Blind Well bosses is called a Plague of the Well. And because the curse on the Dreaming City is on a three-week cycle, each of those three weeks features a different enemy type and boss. Season of the Wish began on Week 3 of the cycle, so the enemies were all Taken with Inomina, a Taken Chimera, as the Tier 4 boss.
How to Beat Sikariis and Varkuuriis, Plagues of the Well
Week 1 of the Dreaming City curse brings Scorn to the Blind Well, so the Tier 4 boss is a pair of Scorn Chieftains. Each has a shield making them invulnerable. The only way to bring down those shields is by shooting the exploding Screebs that swarm all around the arena when they’re close enough.
Because there are lots of Screebs in this encounter, you’ll want to focus on long-range weaponry anyway. We recommend a scout rifle or sniper, an auto rifle, and a linear fusion rifle or machine gun with high stability to maximize DPS. Make sure at least one teammate keeps blowing up Screebs to keep the shields down while others aim for precision damage on Sikariis and Varkuuriis.
How to Beat Cragur, Plague of the Well
The Hive invade the Blind Well in Week 2, and they’re led by Cragur, a massive Ogre with a shield that makes him invulnerable. To break it, players have to defeat yellow-bar enemies and pick up the orb-shaped relics they carry. There are two Knights, two Wizards, and two smaller Ogres that carry it.
The relics grant a buff called Vengeful, and they can be tossed between players to increase the potency before they’re thrown at Cragur. Once his shield is down, he’s open to legitimate damage. If the team fails to bring the Ogre down, then you can just repeat the process. Either go with rocket launchers or aim for Cragur’s bulbous head with your ranged weapon of choice.
How to Beat Inomina, Plague of the Well
Against the Taken in Week 3 of the Dreaming City’s curse, the players have to face Inomina, a Taken Chimera that looks like somebody Frankensteined a Fallen Servitor with some kind of glowy flesh.
Inomina’s immunity shield is generated by large Taken Blights, the kind that generate a Darkness shield around them. But they’ll always be connected directly to Inomina by a line of Darkness energy. Follow those lines to the source, and get up close to destroy them all and bring down the shield. As such, fusion rifles and shotguns are pretty effective for the Blight portion of this fight, but you want rocket launchers or the precision of scout or sniper rifles to damage Inomina directly.
Season of the Wish Blind Well Rewards
Per the Destiny 2 team, the new Blind Well does offer updated difficulty and rewards. Enhancement Cores and Dark Fragments seem to be the most common. Dark Fragments used to be necessary for purchasing Charges of Light from Petra Venj, but now their only use seems to be claiming weekly bounties from her.
The following Dreaming City weapons have been reprised for Season of the Wish as well, and they drop from the Blind Well:
- Tigerspite: Kinetic Precision Auto Rifle
- Waking Vigil: Arc Adaptive Hand Cannon
- Sleepless: Arc High Impact Rocket
- Vouchsafe: Void Lightweight Scout
- Retold Tale: Void Precision Shotgun
- Twilight Oath: Solar Rapid-Fire Sniper
- Abide the Return: Solar Adaptive Sword
Allegedly, the Blind Well loot pool also includes the Season of the Wish seasonal weapons, along with those from Season of Defiance and the traditional Dreaming City loot pool.
